Hi there...

Been looking and seems that everyone agrees with the 50/50mix from GD and Wurth3000.
Well, i went to try and get those... GD is gone... and Honda 60 was substituited for something very diferent (m77) that seems not to work well on the 50/50 mix...

So... the big question is: What are you using? Any good substitute??

(I tried to search the forum to see if this has been discussed but with no luck...)

Many thanks

I have made my own by using different combinations of greases - Honda M77, Belray assembly lube + Belray waterproof grease.  Castrol Molub-Alloy is available to you in Europe and now Beemer Boneyard in the USA has something to replace Guard Dog.  Haven't tried it though.

Castrol Molub-Alloy (used to be known as Castrol Optimol) is brilliant at the job. A 100ml tube will last for years. I do approximately 15,000 miles (24,000 Km) a year on my K100 and after 76,000 miles (121,000 Km) in my ownership the splines are showing no signs of wear.

Next time you're in Praia do Carvoerio say 'hello' from me. I love the place - no 'attractions', so no noisy kids running around and no night clubs, just good food and lots of wine. It's an utterly beautiful part of the Algarve and yes, I have been up to the distillery at Monchique! Very Happy

Actually it's either GD OR a 50/50 mix of Honda Moly 60 and Wurth 3000.

The purpose of adding the Wurth 3000 to the Honda Moly 60 is to make it stickier so it stays around longer.

The Guard Dog stuff was already sticky so no need to add the Wurth. (Which I suspect is what Guard Dog may have used in their formulation.)

I've found several different Molub-Alloy product numbers, Dai. Which product number does your formula have?

Good question. It says 'Optimol' on the tube.

I told you it lasts for years Spline Lube - No more Guard dog or Honda Moly 60... 44271 Spline Lube - No more Guard dog or Honda Moly 60... 44271 Spline Lube - No more Guard dog or Honda Moly 60... 44271 Spline Lube - No more Guard dog or Honda Moly 60... 44271

Oh - you wanted a sensible answer? Very Happy Motorworks are showing it as 'Molub-Alloy White Paste T'

BMW's latest spline lube is Molub Alloy paste TA BMW part no 18 21 9 062 599 and it is now silver grey. It took me quite a few phone calls to actually get the local BMW shop to part with a tube. Spline Lube - No more Guard dog or Honda Moly 60... 167893

My tube of Castrol Optimol (white in colour) is still going after many years also.

Some of us here in Oz have also used this product - not sure if it is available elsewhere.

Spline Lube - No more Guard dog or Honda Moly 60... Image17

Mind you, wear gloves when applying as it is black and stains hands very well.

Cheers

Has anyone tried "Long Term Grease"?

Local bearing shop sells Falk LTG $50 approx for 400g.

It is very thick and sticky - same or better than the white shite BMW sells in the little containers for splines.

I just bought the Loctite Moly Paste .It looks exactly like the Honda Moly and has 65% Moly in it .Will be using it on my 1988 K100 RS and my Moto Guzzi 850-T . They claim it is for applications such as spline lubrication .
