Has anyone had a problem with:-

a) The clutch push rod sticking in the engine when the gearbox was removed
b) The dowels on the clutch cover plate being bent.

The connecting rod has come free now and on checking it doesnt appear to be bent. The tapered end towards the engine block where it was stuck seems pretty dry and slightly gunked up but not rusty. So I assume that this can just be cleaned and re used. Not sure if it needs any lube on that end ? Maybe someone can advise.

Removing the clutch cover plate was a nightmare. Tight on like V tight on and I struggled to get it off but the net result on inspection is that one of the dowels is bent. Does anyone know if its possible to drive these out and replace them with new ? If so part numbers or any other helpful comment would be much appreciated.

Just so you know Im handy but Im not a mechanic ( I guess you already figured that out ! )  Very Happy

Year, model? Suggest you go to Profile, Signature, place year & model & last 7 digits of VIN there for reference when enquiring about specifics.

The two dowels on the 'bell housing', if this is what you're referring to, are BMW part number:

11 12 1 726 242 Dowel 8,5X9MM

The pins on the clutch cover plate are fixed , AFAIR. Try www.realoem.com or Max BMW online for the parts microfiche known as ETK so you can look up part numbers. Dowels prise out easily and can often be straightened out.

You should use a non-fling grease lightly on the clutch plate contact end of the clutch pushrod.

a) I think you mean stuck in the clutch diaphram spring, not the engine, correct?  No, it's not a big deal and does not need to be lubed.

b) If you're referring to the three dowels on the rearward clutch pressure plate then I don't think those can be removed (although I've never tried) but they are not sold as a separate part.

Here's a page with clutch part #s:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=0536-USA---89V2-BMW-K%201100%20LT%20(0526,%200536)&diagId=21_0073

(The prices on the RealOEM site are not correct.  To find real prices you need to go to a dealer site.)

Hi
Thanks for the help I appreciate that.

Good point on the bike info. Done that.

Wrt the dowels it is the 3 on the rear pressure plate and I did figure that they didn't sell them separately.

When you suggested straightening them are you knocking them out of the pressure plate first and heating them up ? How are you doing this ?
Looking at them in situe I guess they must have a shoulder on them so they cant come free when the bike is on the move.  I'm definitely going to try and fix them before I buy a replacement pressure plate. I guess if I had a lathe they would be easy to make.

Also as I am new on here if I'm posting in the wrong place please let me know.

Post moved. You did have it in Member's Introduction. It's relatively easy to find where to post correctly. At the top of the screen you'll see Forum. Scroll down after clicking on that and search the various Troubleshooting topics. This thread relates to Engine & Transmission so I chose that  one for you. It gets easier, and after three posts you'll be able to access the download treasure hoard.
