Ok, time for all the Kiwi Krew to make themselves known because I'm a wee bit weary of reading about the Aussie Krew on the other side of the ditch and all the rides they get up to. Doesn't help that I know most if not all of the roads they ride too, having ridden over there for 25 years.
So, Kiwi members, there is a good chance the banner will be heading our way in the coming months and it also happens that the BMWOR annual shebang is in Cromwell, Central Otago in early January '18, a sweet 40 minute ride from my abode, so I will be in attendance for sure. If there is any interest in getting some conversations and rides happening can you voice your interest here or PM me if you wish. I would like to see some networking happening with advice, info and the odd part or two changing hands for those so interested. I have been riding my K bikes around Central for 12 years now and rarely see another K bike but I know they're about so if you want to leave your sKribble on the sKroll get in touch and lets get this happening.
Richard

The Burt Munro Challenge is on in Invercargill  on 08-11 February. From what I have heard it is really good and worth a visit.  I'm going to make a holiday out of it and have a couple of weeks over there.

All this banter is outstanding! Pity not a Kiwi amongst it. 88 and blackbrick, it would be awesome to catch up with you on your trips. Certainly able to assist with ride destinations and itinerary if needed. I live in Wanaka, one hour north of Queenstown in the Southern Alps. You will come through Wanaka as you finish the southern most part of the west coast road before turning inland and north to Christchurch. Burt Munro challenge is a must if you're in the country mid February as it is the only FIM ratified meet in NZ and worth a visit, albeit it will take up a bit of your allocated time. I have been to 10 'Burts' and to be honest, if you attend motorsport events at home (Isle of Man) I would tend to focus on what NZ has to offer in scenery rather than another race meet. A ride into Milford Sound is pretty high on my list of places to go and see. How much time are you planning to be here? PM me if you want to start some discussions.

I wish I could join you all on this ride.  I did much the same tour 21 years ago this month except I went by taxi, by tramping, by kayak, some hitch hiking and on the train.  It was the third leg of my honeymoon and me the missus absolutely fell in love with NZ.  It was a tough choice coming back to Canada, but in end, family won out.  I would absolutely love to do it all again by bike.

Cheers, Andrew

Hey 88,
if you plans come true and you get to go to the south island, try and catch up. 4 of us are heading to the Burt Munroe Challange.

That goes for you to Blackbrick.

Crossing the cook strait on Feb 2nd and making our way to Invercargill. We will be in Takaka on the Saturday 3rd. Then heading down the west coast & hopefully go to milford sound before the Burt Munroe on the 8th.

Lookout for 4 oldish geezers (3 kiwis, 1 converted expat POM) & 2 red k75's.

PS Kiwik100 , where's your local? Try and catch up for a beer.

Hey Filastein, our local in Wanaka is the Lake Bar, on the lake front. Outstanding hospitality from Pete and his krew, many of whom are bike riders. You can get me on 0212529408 any time and will be up for a beer for sure. I will be heading for Burt too as will a contingent of local riders, although I won't get away until Friday 9th about midday due to work commitments.
Cheers,
Richard

I arrive in Christchurch on the 04/02 and will be in Invercargill on the 08/02. I have rented a Motorhome for 2 weeks. Hopefully will get to meet up with you all. Very excited.....John

Richard I will give you a call when I get a phone sorted after I arrive.
What is the best idea for a phone? Do I just get a Kiwi SIM, or just buy a cheap phone ?

Hi John,
Not sure on the best choice for phones but I would buy an international roaming plan from your telco provider as possibly the best option. I travel to Aussie a bit and lock in a price before I leave. Cheapest option I reckon and less hassle.
Planning to be at Burt also in February although I'll be on my K1200RS, not my K100RS. Don't know why the K1200 bricks are excluded from this forum...
Have you planned your route from Christchurch to Invercargill and return?
Cheers,
Richard
