While I cruising on Ebay I spotted this 8mm stainless braided Teflon hose. After reading the specs it states suitable for fuel and ethanol rated to 1500 PSI crimp fitting recommended after 500PSI. Has anybody tried this or a similar type hose? At $16.50 AU a metre including freight it works out a hell of a lot cheaper than the $50.00 to $100.00 AU per metre they ask for the submersible rated hose. I am tempted to buy a metre or two and replace all the fuel hoses, but I am unsure of the life expectancy.

Good find, but it doesn't actually state that it's for submersion?

No mention of an SAE 30R10 rating.

Buy some and stick it in a container of fuel for a month or so...or give it to a mate to try out first !

If Teflon hose can stand to have ethanol and fuel running through it, I can't see any reason that it can't be submerged. The stainless braiding definitely wont be effected. The only problem I can envisage is will a hose clamp seal it up against the pipes. The only other problem is will it be able to be bent enough to go onto the fuel pump, but there are ways around that. I am going to ask a few of the Brains Trust at the Trades Guild what their opinions are, we have a chemical engineer as a member. They go back next Friday week. At this stage from what I have read if it can be used I believe it should last at least ten years if not more.

With normal fuel hose, the inner layer obviously has to be fine with permanent contact with fuel, but the outer layer isn't unless specified as submersible.

The question therefore is: is there a layer of material between the hose's teflon inner and the braided outer that is not submersible? From the product description image inset, it looks like there is a thin layer of something black just under the braid. Hard to tell from the small image, though.

My son in law who is a motor body builder said they use a black nylon or could be PTFE hose as a fuel supply for diesel . The hose is submersed in boiling water before being pushed onto the barb fitting. Once pushed on, it contracts and requires no hose clips. This could be a problem when changing filters if hose clips are not used. He has some offcuts that he can give me to play with once he returns to work. He is also going to find out what it actually is and whether it is petrol and ethanol proof. More research will have to be done.

The braiding can be easily removed; just grip both ends and push towards the middle to expand the diameter. The braiding will then just about fall off. As for securing the teflon; I suspect your SIL is absolutely right. Teflon doesn't compress too well and I doubt it will take a hoseclip. I stand to be corrected...!

+1 Dai that is my biggest concern at the moment. However there are metal fuel filters available with screw on fittings readily available from our local auto supply. But that brings further complications can I fit the spanners required in the tank. I'll just have to take it one step at a time.
