Hi

I finished building my K100RT conversion from a damaged RS on the weekend. I have one part left over. Try as I might, I cannot find a spot where it is supposed to go. Any help will be appreciated.

And just for fun, here is a picture of the fairing fitted. Final buffing and polishing must still happen, and the seat needs to be redone as well.

I think that's the part that goes down at the bottom over the rear of the crank case cover.

That must get lost. I got a 92 K100LT in 2010 and a 1984 K100RT in 2013 and neither have that piece. Not that I would notice.

Probably due to people like me, not having a clue as to where they go, and then leaving it out ;-) 

That part has been in the spares box for years. I changed from RS to RT and back a few times and have never been able to figure out where it goes.

I just wanted to give some final feedback. I used the K100 in the afternoon Cape Town traffic today. Temps exceeding 30C. It was hot, but not unbearably so. I remember almost boiling alive the last time I had the RT fairing in place and being out on a hot day.

This is without any of the heat management tips installed. Pure factory installation with all rubber components in good condition. Installing this gasket made a significant difference to my right leg while riding. The only changes I made is new fairing gators for the struts and this gasket installed correctly.

I will do some heat management soon, because the tank itself got really hot. Between the engine, and the hot sun on the black, that is expected. I think some improvements can be made. I did not get boiling fuel. Which I had last time around. The trip, lane splitting, through the afternoon traffic may just have been to short to get the fuel to boil. (16 km)

Side note:  If you're in weather that hot it's a good idea to throw a rag over the instrument cluster when parked or be sure to park in the shade.  The black faceplates of the speedo and tach absorb a lot of heat and can warp, making the needles stick.

You might consider adding a fuel cooler to the system. Here is a description of one style that worked and the thread includes other examples.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but another thing to insulate is the return fuel line from the fuel pressure regulator to the tank.  That goes right behind the radiator right before it goes into the tank and does a nice job of heating the fuel before it gets to the tank.

I fitted a heat shield on the fuel rail and it has been working well. We are in the middle of a heat wave in OZ and with the shield fitted the rail temperature is lower than ambient temperature. The shield has double sided reflective foam insulation fitted on the back.

All of these are interesting ideas. Thanks

I think the best starting point is to insulate the fuel lines and add a little more insulation under the tank. I also want to shield the under tank electrical connections from the engine heat. The plastic is old and the heat build up there cannot be good for the connections.
