Hi forum.
Well I guess I'm here because I'm a fan of K bikes too. When I returned to the two wheeled world late in life, many years had past and technology had changed since the days when I used to go everywhere on an old Triumph. Because I'm starting to be an old fart, I had a few new criteria in mind this time and chief among them were reliability, long legs and must be light enough to lift by myself if it goes down.
After a brief search I found a silver K75S with 97,000kms on the dial. Everything worked. No spanner marks and it ran sweetly. I did 100,000kms on that bike in barely 4 years. Nothing went wrong. I was never stopped by the road. I rode it north and south, east and west, often putting in 2000km weekends. It's still in the shed. I love that bike!
My enthusiasm led me to look further. I rescued another K75S that was headed to the knackery. It too runs sweetly now and looks a picture. There's an early K100RS which had wasted for 34 years after it was parked because the rear tyre went bald. It's my project after I finish my current one - an 89 K1.
These bikes aren't perfect but what is perfect then? To my eye, they look great, they work wonderfully well and they're easy to live with. Because they work so well they get used and that's the point after all. My return to motorcycling has been a total success, even much richer than it was in more youthful days, thanks to the BMW K.
