I thought that we needed a new thread so as to keep track of the RossKKo Flask and set some basic rules for its future travels.
When we had the initial conversation about a Flask in memory of RossKKo we decided that it was to travel by motorcycle where ever it went but my brain had already been numbed by fine wine and I may have missed other things.
My idea is that opon passing the flask on a toast should be drunk to the memory of our great friend RossKKo and to the health of the forum members and then pass the flask on to the next forum member for it's future travels after it has been refilled with the finest whiskey or whisky available.

Should we have a time limit before it is passed on?  Should it be passed on at each forum event.  Maybe try to get a photo of the flask at various places it visits.
What other things did we discuss at the time.

Thanking of how the sKroll has travelled it has wandered far and wide but at times has been entrusted to various postal services. I think 4 in total. First from Au to Eccentrics, then from me to BAE, then from BAE to Ringfad and then finally from me back to Au. It has travelled Australia, Ireland, France, UK, Canada, Norway/Sweden that I know of.

Perhaps one option is that the Rosskko flask travels but always in the Kompany of a forum member. Looking at how Indian036, CF, TWB, BAE and a few more members move around it looks like the flask can go anywhere.

In reality with air travel if it travels on the person it can't be completely filled until arrival. The idea of it being at an event and a toast drunk is a really nice one.

So of course anyone else travelling up this way now has a good reason. We had expected Rosskko over earlier this year and maybe just maybe it might happen that we could do something.

I looked on the Jameson website and it seems that if the flask doesn't travel we can organise an Irish Whiskey to be delivered from Cork to the flask wherever it is!! We have managed puddings in the past so this won't be a problem.

I hope the flask get a life of its own, with plenty of followers.

Geeze Jameson whiskey Puddings, sounds incredible and tasty.

More power to RossKKo's flask

Thanks Charlie for reminding me, to answer the question, if my voice was considered then I say the flask travels with a Krew member always.

thinking the same olaf

I'm sure the restriction of bike transport only , may not be the intention of the Komeraderie of rejoicing in rosskkos life and  friendships but also to include  the folks that he may have affected  either directly or indirectly .

of course the aussies claim to have the sole friendship face to face on many of his adventures , but I am reminded  that bae did infact receive a very good welcoming and assistance from rosskko and the krew out here , not so long ago and must hold a pertinent claim to the friendship with rosskko and family .

my personal belief is that possibly the flask should travel , to those that were part of the following appreciation of rosskko s life and travels , in the time that we knew him .

I think if we receive interest from the forum members to hold a personal or group celebration of his life, his love of k bikes and efforts to spread the word , family and friendship , it should be encouraged  .

i think that the travels should be, where ever possible, accompanied by a member who is responsible for the safety and deliverance of "the flask" s it travels around .

there are certain members that have a very close affinity with rosskko  from afar , like bert (crazy frog ) and many others that have messaged him  and have particular friendships that are not immediately obvious to the forum in public .  I'm guessing there are many .

in any case the flask should be appreciated for the memory of rosskko and his life and love of the venerable "k"bike

As a whisky connoisseur it is my understanding that when BAE visited there were a couple of bottles of Glenlivet Nadurra involved of which one went to RossKo as a thank you.  Others may be able to confirm whether this is indeed the first fill of The Flask.

There are a couple of bottles of Glenlivet Nadurra in my kollection and I opened one of them in RossKo's memory. Whenever I have a dram from this bottle I share it with RossKo. I was fortunate to have a drink from The Flask at Smithy's place last weekend.

So my question to the forum is, do we keep a certain whisky in The Flask, or is there room for manoeuvre? Nothing less than  single malt though.

We wont take any offence if the Flask must always travel on a K. Too bad they don't fly. Best we have is that our own Hover K100 powers some hovercraft with K engines but they aren't suited to ocean travel.

If the Rosskko flask doesn't come to us for Jameson we can send the Jameson to the flask.

I have the bottle of Glenlivet in the garage with the RossKKo shot glasses and will bring this bottle to the next event I attend...there is only one drink missing from the bottle which was taken by RossKKo himself....It was going to be the Farkairn rally which succumbed from the RossKKo rain effect and we did not overnight at Bathurst so gents next get together....cheers!!!

For my tuppence happenny worth of opinion....

I agree with Charlie - whilst the Aussie Krew don't have sole rights to Rosskko's friendship, it was very much rooted in Oz and that is where the flask should reside to keep the memory of Rosskko and the spirit of adventure and kamaraderie alive.

As evidenced by the recent Northern Tablelands gathering, there are plentiful opportunities for the flask to travel between krew members without it having to leave the Oz shores. Over time, new krew members will join who will not have known Rosskko personally, but they will learn what the flask means and hopefully understand and continue the tradition.

Whilst it would be nice for the flask to travel overseas and be entrusted to the likes of me, Olaf or TWB (as the skroll did) for a period of time, that would take it out of circulation in Oz for some time and it could then be missing from several krew gatherings down under - I think that would be wrong. Rosskko was not a globe trotter - he belongs on the Aussie rides. Perhaps though, if a particular forum member was planning to come on holiday and meet up and ride with other members (as Indian and Gaz did with the Irish Eccentrics and as Rosskko had been planning to do), then by exception maybe they could bring the flask with them and enable us in the far flung korners of the world to have Rosskko's flask ride with us and enable us to toast his memory.

Of course, there is no reason why, in the absence of the flask, that if we find ourselves holed up in some hostelry on a forum gathering (e.g. a St Pats or a Norn Iron gathering) that we couldn't get a round of whisky/whiskey's in and raise a toast to Rosskko and all absent friends that have gone to the back of the shed.

As for the contents of the flask, I am so pleased that the bottle of whisky that I gave to Rosskko as a thank you for all his help is being used to fill the flask at the moment - but I don't think there is a particular need to stick with that brand once the bottle is empty. Any decent single malt should suffice!

The second bottle of Glenlivet Nadurra Whisky to arrive on these shores courtesy of BAE is in my possession and was opened for Smithy & I to drink a toast (or maybe two) to Rosskko the evening before Rosskko's memorial service.

I think it entirely appropriate that I preserve the rest to continue to fill the flask when the first bottle has been consumed. Like the others who have had the opportunity so far I was proud to be able to raise the flask to our absent friend.

Cheers

Re the travelling of the flask:

My 2 cents worth.

1. International. While RossKKo didn't make the planned trip to Ireland, it was certainly desired. His welcome to Paul showed his international interest, as did his forum support across the world.
Given that, I can't see why the flask shouldn't travel internationally, even though it'll probably spend most time in Oz.

2. Mode of flask transport. It seems to me that the priority is the konnection and kameraderie with the people of the forum. To me, flexibility should be possible at the expense of rigidity. A suggested desirable transport priority would be:
Who - a forum member preferable to a non-forum member, but another reliable person who can bridge the distance/transport gap between members would be acceptable.
How - in order of preference, a K75/K100/K110, another BMW model bike, another brand bike, a car, registered post. (Would anyone object to Rickmeister or RT carrying the flask, for example? I certainly wouldn't.)

I certainly don't want to start any kind of fight or argument over it, but given my view on the importance of the personal konnection, I think it's a reasonable suggestion to put out there.

Bill

If we track it down in time for the K Fest, then perhaps I can collect it from BAE and return it home to Oz in June.  Via a few Scottish distilleries, of course.  Perhaps a distillery only Clynelish or even a cask strength GlenDronach.   (o)

thanks to all the krew who shared in a toast, in memory of our absent mate Rosskko, during this weekends Northern Tablelands Ride .
Before leaving Smithy's today , I topped up the flask with some lovely "Old Virginia - Smooth Honey " in readiness for it's next toasting, and is currently in my posession .
