Anyone have photos of where/how they moved their ignition key? Seems that a lot of people remove the stock bars/pad, so I assume they relocate the key?

I've seen them mounted in the side covers ( home made), coil cover and off the hole on the edge of the tank. However on a club run Dawn to Dusk approximately 20 years ago, as one guy approached his bike he pulled out a electronic key fob and proceeded to start his bike before he was even there. I think it was adapted from a car alarm. One of the Qld members might remember more details. I did think it was pretty cool at the time, and did think about doing it. Key Locations 447221
Regards Martin.

yeah, the hole on the sides of the tank was a thought i had, but the housing is so long, and doesnt seem to have a easy way of mounting other than to its original mount on the handlebar pad.

I thought about drilling out the hole on the triple a little larger, obviously drilling this out an extra couple mm would have some affect, but would it be dangerous to the structural integrity of the triple tree? its currently around 27mm and the key housing is 30mm.

Just a note on the remote start option.
I have one of these on one of my bikes (it's a show-off feature on an aftermarket alarm) I think it's quite cool and I wondered about using it on the project bike and doing away with the key completely.

I emailed the guy who designed/sold the alarm and he said not to do it. It's okay as a show-off to remote start outside the cafe, but he advised against using it to run the bike. Reason was, his pal was killed with this setup when he was doing an overtake and the bike cut out. Sounds dramatic, but that came from the guy who was making and selling the alarms.

I still used the remote start, but I backed it up with a concealed switch wired in parallel that I can flick on before riding off. If someone finds the concealed switch and operates it, it activates the alarm/immobiliser. If the start button is pressed when the alarm is activated, the bike is dead until repaired by me. Next step would be detonation of the bike, but I held back on that one!

If you are not making too many mods to the stock wiring, then your options are limited because the stock wiring and switch cater for the parking light feature and you have to stick with the OE switch or an equivalent. If you can live without the parking light (has anyone ever used it?), then you can have freedom to replace the OE switch with anything you like.

Right in the top of the headlight!   Very Happy Very Happy

If you could figure out a good aftermarket keyless option, that would be pretty cool.
