Hi folks,
I been using the site as part of my information sourcing and decided its about time I joined the group. My ride which I bought 18 months ago is a 1984 K100RS with a sidecar which had 13.500 km on the clock. It's engineered as a one plus one due to the tight construct of the bike / sidecar. The wife and I had discussed the possiblity of a bike, trike and or side for a while as she is not a willing pillion, in fact has never been on the back, and likely never will. This bike came up at the right time and the wife loves the rig.
The things I've done.
I've replaced all water hoses, brakes lines (now braided). All fluids, wheel bearings, head stock bearings, flushed the tank and the fuel filter was the original unit 1984 unit. I ran 15w fork oil but the standard forks were too heavy to steer and the nose dropped steeply with the added rig. The forks were replaced with a leading link arrangement from premier sidecars. The hand brake (a must have for certification / registration) was originally placed on the pannier mount bolts on the right side. It was a pain and stopped me from being able to mount the right side pannier. I relocated the hand brake between the rig and the bike mounted on the structrual steel. I'm now sporting a touring pannier on the right.
Things I'm doing
Currently replacing the RS bars with touring bars similar to the RT is height, adding BMW heated grips and hazard switch, new LED lamps across the front and a new flip top screen from Powerbronze. All new parts used where available, and as you are all aware if you look hard this means most parts are still available.
Things I'm thinking about
Relocating the rig further off the bike (about a 150mm to allow a pillion rider ((may even be the wife (very hopeful) if the grand kids are in the rig)).
Changing the rig screen and canopy to allow the passanger cover during wet weather. The current screen is low, about a head too short to useful.
And the obvious, trips away, juckets, drinking coffee and doing bugger all.
Anyway looking forward to accessing the collective knowledge.
Cheers
Gmac.
