K1100LT new in stable, new problems Wp_20110

Hi
I'm "contaminated" by flying bricks and now bought another one (have K100 and K1200RS) which is K1100LT 1992. This bike was siting for few years outside and have some damages because of sun and rain. I removed all fairings and start repairing what was broken, so bounch of work. Anyway, I need electric wire schema if someone could provide me with. I fixed allmost all issues apart from: no brake lights (switches ok) no power on wires in the lamp so no tail light as well. Turn are working. Also gauges for fuel leverl and temperature are not working. I checked all I could but to know more must unbend a lot of wires. So maybe someone have an idea what may that be, maybe I do not connect properly some information. Main problem is of course lack of power for brakes and tail.
I stuck and have no ide where to dig or what to do.

I almost forgot mention about ABS fault. It flashes, I was trying to reset control unit several times but no results. I checked faulty codes and unfortunatley it is 7 which meance that abs unit is fauty. Is that any option to repair it or to get more info what is wrong??

For the wiring scheme to the tail /brake...you can use wiring scheme you
find at the portal...is the BMU removed?

As both extra instrument don't function, first i would suspect is power or
ground...the Connector you find under the tank...power:green/black...
brown: ground.

First of all ,its been a long time Inge!!!! BMU is not removed, but maybe should be.Will you pls redirect me to the wiring scheme ....on this portal. What that both extra instruments have in common? mean connections? This bike is a pain in the ass because was exposed for long time for weather conditions, just trying to put all that puzzles together. ABS will be the next big issue.

Thanks a lot for diagrams, will try to chase the problem today. Also have read a lot of information about ABS problem and must figure out what may be the reason of malfunction.

I spend many hours today to find out the problems. First of all I repait missing stop and tail, HOW?? because was missing something like bulb monitoring device (or how we call it) see on the pics, that one is from my friend K100. But anyway it was just empty socket!!! I must return that thing to my friend so where I can but that one? What exactly looking for? I'm pissed because previous owner had to sell it and did not say anything!!! Another case is that I could not find on the wiring diagram additional temp and fuel gauges whih are no working now. I gues that is to big councident that they did not work together but in this bike all is possible. My warm request is that I need diagram for this additional gauges (which are equiper in LT in side fairings VDO) to find the reason why they did not working. That was very fruitful day in my garage regarding lights but still must repair this gauges.

BMU.

You can bridge the contacts in the socket.

E1 and E2 to 54A.
58E to 58A.

You can search a used relay.

You can buy a new relay, part nr. 61 31 1 459 003.

GAUGES.

Have you tried to measure at the connector under the tank.

Thanks Inge. I was looking at the connectors and for a first view looking ok, and did not measure anything because can not locate it on diagram. Must follow the wires but can not locate that two additional gauges despite of the fact t is LT diagram.

BTW if I do bridge the BMU, what will be the change for anything? Did it have any influence on the other elactric devices or I can just bridge fearless?

The BMU is a standalone circuit. Won't impact anything else.

You don't need a diagram to check if there is 12V+ present at the green/black
wire and 12V- present at the brown wire.

Will do that today asap. LAst days I'm doing notj=hing but bringing that old lady to life.
I have another question regarding silencer/exchaust because inside mine (cat or silencer itself) I can hear a loose parts and annoying noise. Do you have any ideas about repairing (I do not think is possible) or any after market replacement?

Have someone to cut the silencer open, remove the loose parts, weld it close.

Inge I connect (bridge) as you suggested to avoid BMU and only fuse burned, I checked twice and same situation.

Regarding additional gauges I found (I hope is that one) connector with two wires exactly colours as you mention and there is power and negative on it.

The unattached connector with two wires in the lower middle of your picture is for heated grips.

Weird, did not notice heated grips, but maybe because all switches are without sign and all I can recognize is abs. So where is that connector Inge is talking about???? But colours of wires are as Inge stated, so was thinking it must be it.

BMU.
When does the fuse blow? bridging the terminals turn on the ignition turn on the light.

Maybe this short is the reason to why the BMU is removed.
Did it function OK with Your friends BMU?

Yes, Yes,Yes heated grips are working!!! Ha, one step forward. Maybe you have any idea what is for the second switch from left? Works like flash lights so no positions. Grrrrr...can not load the pic.

Yes, BMU works super and all works flawessly, just wanted to give it back to my friend and bridge all connection. It blows fuse N01 as soon as I turn ignition ON without even lights.

Yes, and that is exactly the conector Inge shows but somehow can not find it ....will take of majority of wireloom tomorrow and looking for that connector.

Probably a hazard flasher switch. Wiring for that is yellow/violet and brown.

The black cap that one would flip to turn the switch on and off. It's obviously missing, so you'll have to get another replacement switch.

Try digging around the cabling on the right side of the bike under the tank to look for that connector. It's often buried. The connector looks like one of those old fashion hard disk drive power connectors that PCs used to have.

You can't tell from a picture if it's missing the internal slider part.

Still rebulding my wireloom but that work drive me crazy. I have a tricky question: in my K1100 LT I can switch lights and turn signals without ignition key on. Just like I leave the bike on the street everybody can switch lights and turn signal. WTF? I do not think it is original because that is stupid. Please can someone help me saying how to change it?

Hard to tell exactly how things are wired on your bike over The Internet but from the factory:

Headlight: Headlight power to the right combination switch should come in via a green/blue wire from the load shedding relay.

Turn signals: Switched power to the flasher relay should come in via a green/brown wire from Fuse #7.

Sorry have never seen white feathers(white ziptie)before with BMW K100RT printed on them (requires very large magnification via hubble telescope to confirm this)..must be my bad lol Very Happy

It's a flat four-pin connector, under the fuel tank, on the left side of the frame.

I know, I was told it is there but unfortunately I'm blind, stupid or whatever you can call me but can not find it!!!! Many, many connectors but not that one!!

Try to swap with the horn relay (in front of the LSR)....if then OK, give the

That will wait a bit because I'm going for a ride from Poland to Albanie and Italy about 5000km . Of course on a brick K1200RS. But back to subject, that two gauges piss me of a lot because I was digging in a wire loom for hours. But as allways that will be something small that is a pain in the ass. This bike was standing outside for years and many things looks bad like bolts and electric connection.
