Just a note on the remote start option.
I have one of these on one of my bikes (it's a show-off feature on an aftermarket alarm) I think it's quite cool and I wondered about using it on the project bike and doing away with the key completely.
I emailed the guy who designed/sold the alarm and he said not to do it. It's okay as a show-off to remote start outside the cafe, but he advised against using it to run the bike. Reason was, his pal was killed with this setup when he was doing an overtake and the bike cut out. Sounds dramatic, but that came from the guy who was making and selling the alarms.
I still used the remote start, but I backed it up with a concealed switch wired in parallel that I can flick on before riding off. If someone finds the concealed switch and operates it, it activates the alarm/immobiliser. If the start button is pressed when the alarm is activated, the bike is dead until repaired by me. Next step would be detonation of the bike, but I held back on that one!
If you are not making too many mods to the stock wiring, then your options are limited because the stock wiring and switch cater for the parking light feature and you have to stick with the OE switch or an equivalent. If you can live without the parking light (has anyone ever used it?), then you can have freedom to replace the OE switch with anything you like.
