Greetings all!
I'm glad I stumbled upon the forum here. My name is Brad, and I joined up since I picked up some "Project" BMW motorcycles. Let me step back, first:
I'm admittedly a car enthusiast at heart (although it borders on obsession at times!). Ever since I earned my driver's license, I've been fascinated with modifying and tuning my vehicles. Currently the stable ranges from a 1999 AWD swapped Mitsubishi Eclipse GST Turbo, 1978 Datsun 280Z, 1991 Nissan 240sx (Race Prepped), up to a 2012 BMW 335i. Like I said, I can't seem to leave my cars alone.
Since I grew up riding dirt bikes/snowmobiles, I figured it was finally a good time to hop into the two wheel world. Last year, I took a motorcycle safety course, got my license, and purchased a 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 650. I loved the experience riding last season, and the Ninja has been a great bike to learn on. I decided this year, to dive deeper into the motorcycle community.
This next part is not meant to upset the K100 purists, but I absolutely fell in love with the looks of the bike after spotting a local café racer inspired rebuild. After searching my local craigslist for sale ads, I found a gentlemen trying to part with a few K bikes. I ended up renting a box truck, driving up to meet him, and made a nice deal for a few bikes. Here's what I think I've ended up with:
-1985 K100 (fairing) Needs some TLC to run
-1985 K100 (naked, nicknamed "Frank" for Frankenstein) Needs some TLC to run
-Extra 1985 K100 frame, wiring, low mileage motor and trans
-1986? K75 frame, motor, tank, a various other bits
-Tons of parts including saddlebags, extra forks/triple trees, springs, seats, fairings, crash bars, exhausts, etc.....
It has been a whirlwind to gather all these pieces, not fully knowing what I have here just yet. I'm hoping with some help from forums and other online resources, I can better lay out the origins of all the parts.
The goal is to possible sell one of the K100s, after it is put back together. The other K100 will be converted to a café racer, and hopefully enjoyed for a bit. Who knows, it may never leave my ownership! As for the spare K100 and K75 frames, I'm undecided at this point.
Either way, I'm excited to learn all about these bikes, and bring a few of them roaring back to life!
