Welcome to the forum.
Please keep us up to date with your progress and plenty of pics.
I'm working on a custom K myself and like to see other people's ideas.
Did you make or buy the exhaust collector?
Looks like a nice piece of work.

Exhaust collector is made from original muffler. Cut off and welded adapter pipe in. And then more welding  Very Happy

Speedometer is Motoscope Tiny, from motogadget.  There is also Sureshift gear indicator integrated in top tree.

Scrambler and Clip-ons.. Let's call it just custom then.  And I might change to street tires at some point..

Really neat job on the collector.
Now, if you had just taken series of photos on how you did it...
I've bought a welder with something similar in mind. After much practice, of course!
Just goes against the grain to cut up a perfectly good, if ugly, standard silencer. Going to cut it back a bit from the collector and use the rest of the silencer to practice my welding skills.
Clip ones are nice but did wonder about you using the scrambler title.
I'm currently looking at ways of using GS bars. I also have an R1200GS and find the higher, wider bars perfect for me.
Due to the, ahem, relaxed muscle on my abdomen, clip ons aren't going to be the most comfortable over any distance.
Love the look of the 'sKrambler' on another thread, although it has been built to a very high standard.

Sorry, no more photos on collector. I cut the part with 4 inlet pipes, then cut off some pieces and hammered collector to fit, added adaptor pipe and welded with some points. Then sent to professional welder, who smoothed it out and filled the gaps.

Are those TKC80 tyres? If, what size? And if front tyre is ment to be placed rear is it installed so that it spins in "wrong" direction?

And how bike handles with those tyres? I have bought TKC80 for my K100 and will install them later this year.

Yes, they are TKC80.
Rear is 130/80R17
Front tire is ment to be front tire. I can check the size later.

No idea about handling, the bike does not run yet.

Ok, thanks. I could not find TKC80 in suitable size for front. So I took 110/80/18 rear to be in front and 140/80/17 for rear.

Thanks for the photo, mrc.
Looking at the rear frame loop which has been shortened.
I'm just planning that part of the rear of mine before I make the first cut. Beyond the point of no return...
Just realised that I need to remove surplus brackets and work out what I'm doing with the rear end BEFORE I can think about painting the frame.
Did you shorten the rear of the frame yourself? Is that the original rear loop welded into the cut frame rails?

Yes, it is original loop. Frame was shortened with 3 cuts/welds.
Cut 1 shortened the frame.
Cut 2&3 bent the tail a bit upward for better line.

Welds wil be smoothed out by professional, when the frame goes to paint next winter.

Hey man nice ride, I'm wondering how long you've ridden with the fuel controller like that. I had mine mounted on similar mounting points but the other way around and was having trouble with water intrusion eventually causing the bike to stall. Even on a mildly wet day. But I didn't have a fender at all. Last summer I had to take the computer apart a few times and clean it with alcohol and dry it up before I could get the bike working again. I've been looking for another location for it, possibly above the air box to protect it a bit better, how long have you been riding with it like that?

The mounting points were similar but I had the metal side of the case facing down so it was flush with the frame. When I took it apart the entire PCB was dripping in water, I tried waterproofing it when I reassembled it but I was having the same problem. I didn't have a rear fender at all though so the tire would throw water on it, defiantly contributed to the issue. It was fine on nice days though. I'm in the process of finding a place for it right now.
The aluminum on your bike looks clean, and I like your polished tank.

what year is the bike , try the clutch switch or gear switch before the ecu

I like the seat and rear end styling. Most people seem to just grab a plank of wood, then wrap some foam and vinyl around it and call it a seat.  It actually looks comfortable.  Very Happy

I am generally not a fan of the café style but the rear is nice and tidy.  A professional looking job.

Reverse the leads.
Run it backwards.
Only for a second at a time. You might find a few quick taps of power will un stick what is stuck

I would say that TKC80 tyres handle on tarmac almost as good as any "normal" tyre on K100. I have now driven about +1000km with TKC80:s and the only thing I have noticed is that the bike turns bit more quickly (less like a brick) on corners but cornering speed may be a little slower now. And they do work nicely on gravel too. And they of course look very nice. Only thing that I think is poor on these tyres is the wear speed. I don't think I will get more than 5000km with rear tyre, bit more with front. Air pressures are now 2,4 / 2,6 bar.

I expected lot worse and was really surprised how good they are.

Could be a idea to change out the fuel cap, the ones with a pushbutton was known to letting water through.
Back then it was a recall period about those, but I think you're a bit late for that Rolling Eyes ...........

Darn, I have the same gas cap on my 1985, $300 for a new one, ain't going to happen. Any idea where it leaks? I'm thinking maybe using a POR-15 tank sealant on the inside of the cap to seal it up.

The gap around the push button fills with water, but the water only gets into the tank when the cap is opened.

The later caps have a ridge to direct any water from the opened cap towards the drain hole. Unfortunately, the part with the ridge is not compatible with the early cap.

Paul.

Time to to do some re-engineering and see if I can come up with a fix for that, thank you for the heads up, it rains in Vancouver and that would explain the hole in my tank I had to fix.
