Hello!

I just picked up a 1985 K100RS with +90K miles on it. Everything looks fairly clean, but its been sitting for 3+ years and needs a good run through. Swapped out the filters, changed the oil, bled the breaks, cleaned the jets, and am about to change out the fuel pump. Hopefully that is the last hiccup to get her started.

Planning a cafe style. In the process of stripping the bike down now, but not getting too ahead of myself before getting the bike running, and making sure everything is in good condition before I polish a turd.

I live in Englewood Colorado. Work as a Project Manager in the construction industry. Outside of that I do a lot of fly fishing, a little wood working, some beer brewing, and a bit of hunting. Married, no kids, a hunting dog (German Shothair Pointer), and a lot of projects...

My previous bike was a 1983 Kawasaki KZ750LTD that I did a cafe build on. you can see that one here, https://kzrider.com/forum/11-projects/510572-83-kz750-ltd-cafe-project
Rode that one for a couple years, then sold it. I am a bit of a project guy, and although I could have done more to that bike, I felt it was at an ok spot, and sold it for the next project.

Easy fix. Go to the desired image in your 'puter, press edit, rotate it round until it's upright (even if it IS appearing upright to start with), then save it. Re-post. It will sit correctly oriented. Pain, yes, but often necessary. It is NOT the forum doing it.

Welcome to the forum, otherwise. Save the bits! They will be desired by someone - perhaps even you - in the future. I see someone's taken the time to retrofit later four-piston calipers to aluminium brackets over floating front discs. If the master cylinder ratio is correct that'd make her a stopper.

Welcome!  Don't bin anything, some parts like the mirror/turn signals are no longer available and there are owners who would seriously consider selling their next of kin to get one.

have fun with the build
document what you pull off before you do it

pretty hard to diagnose an issue if you don't know what you have done ..

good luck

all i mean is put a bunch of cosmetic work in if there is a major issue, and i end up with a great looking non running bike. I dont think thats the case, but i'm just being cautious

it is a good looking bike, but keeping it stock is not my intent, so hopefully the parts will be used by someone who needs them.

I am snapping plenty of pictures along the way. Right now the only things i'm taking off are not critical items. The cowl, the seat, basically all the plastic. Trying my best to keep everything in a neat pile, so i can document it and offer it up to someone looking for parts.

After some tinkering, replacing a fuel pump, and general fluid changes... it’s alive!

Thanks! Hearing it run was the best part of my week!
My wife was a little upset to smell the exhaust gasses in the house though... but I thought it smelled lovely!
