Hey guys in my Cafe Racer project I'm looking to modify the rear of the frame by shortening it considerably however the bracket that holds on the rear shock gets in my way. I just want to ask how structural it is and whether I can trim it a bit. Also how I would go about calculating the implications of shortening the bracket.

If you cut it off any further forward than the top shock mount then first of all you will have no rear suspension and secondly you will have nowhere to sit!

So how close can I get because I feel if I cut too close it will become weak, even if I'm an inch away from the mounting hole for the rear shock

You will have to cut as close as you feel that you need to cut. No one on here can give you the exact measurements as any risk taken is yours.

Fair point my instincts are telling me not to touch the second and third weld as I feel the first weld was meant to hold something else on.
