I managed to find a set of Type 3 for $80.00 AU for a mate of Gumtree, he got them for $60.00. They are in pretty good condition and with a bit of sanding and buffing would look as good as new. These panniers are going on his 1994 R100 with metal tubular pannier frames, and the panniers are the same as the Bricks. However on one of the panniers the latch that holds the pannier to the frame is worn and he reckons it moves around to much, and could possibly come loose. He brought it into work yesterday and it is definitely worn and the retaining rivets are loose.
I am hoping that replacing the rivets may tighten them enough. If not the only solutions I can come up with at the moment is to pack out the frame where the latch hooks on. And I've had a look at mine and it might also be possible to build them up with JB weld if I can manage to get into them. Has anyone managed to pull the latch apart, and managed to tighten them up, if so how? If any Ozinians have an good Type 3 latch of a destroyed set of panniers send me a PM. He is coming around on Monday so I can have a look at them, hopefully by then I might have found a cure.
Regards Martin.
