An acquaintance is selling a 85 K100 with a Pichler fairing that needs some TLC (. leaking in a few spots here & there. 60K on the clock

I have been reading about oil/water pump seals & main seal issues. Anything else I should look out for??

I own several bikes at the moment, K1200S, HP2E, And a plethora of classic Buell's.

I owned a K1200LT with the flying brick, it was a great bike and I miss her. But at the time she had to go ((

Looking forward to another journey ))

Any advice on making a purchase on one of these bikes & what else to look for is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

WeKome!

Click on the portal tab and look for the link to "You just bought a used K...." lots of info in there about what to do/expect.

I usually budget to replace rubber seals some cab;es and switches before even looking at cosmetics

The two more difficult leaks are....

The front of the engine at the water/oil pump.
The front of the bell housing, rear of engine, crankshaft rear man seal.

If you are into doing your own work these are not too bad to do [not too bad on parts cost either] and if you are in there go at the starter clutch [sprag clutch] and all worth it in terms of reassuring a future buyer that they are done.

The third item is spline lubes but the second item above takes care of that too.

Expect in time to do all the brake seals and caliper seals and replace all the external fuel lines, rubber hoses, crank case vent, vacuum pipes. All cheap but if faulty can cause havoc with bad running/petrol leaks. Again not big cost.

Enjoy the K.

Check out the post "Advise on buying unseen".
I bought a bike unseen last weekend thanks to the excellent advise from the gurus here.

Yes, I would be doing all of my own wrenching, as I do on all of my bikes except the K1200S. With other than the fuel sender has not given me a lick of problems. Any recalls have been done by the dealer under warranty.

I will be changing any & all hoses. & rubber bits as I come across them, yes I am neurotic with my rides, & have been known to just do it while I am there ))
