In the last year my K has been running hot, the fan was switching on regularly and the bike would cool down, the next stop it would warm up and switch on again, seemed like it was running a temp just under where the fan kicks in, I fitted a new BMW (expensive) fan about 16 years ago, and used to let it idle in the driveway to make the fan run and not seize, as it rarely came on, so I pulled the radiator out thinking its full of bugs, no bugs or crap so cleaned it, pulled the thermostat out and found it was stuck open about 4 to 5mm, replaced it with a corolla one, I have ridden around for a week and all is back to normal yay. Hope this helps others that may experience similar probs, cheers Gary

Forgot to say that the engine gets up to operating temp a lot quicker than before, and that is a good thing as most rides are short around town.

Not sure of the model Toyota Corolla but I bought the high flow and new rubber ring,
Tridon High Flow Thermostat - TT2014-180, from supacheap

hi martin

most of the corolla s from 86 through 96 use the same

reference  ae 86 ...ae 92 , ae 101 ...etc

the new addition is the high flow version from tridon with about an extra 3- 5mm diameter flow port...not quite 2 x  price of the standard version
but depends on what your tying to achieve

cheers

Thanks fella's I have seen various reviews on whether you can or cannot use Corolla thermostats. Some with modification to the thermostat and others saying the "O" rings need to be changed. So it's good to see local content on them.
Regards Martin.

I bought the high flow version as they had no stock of the standard, also the rubber ring that SCA offered was to big Tridon TTG11 @54mm $3.99 it did not fit tightly around the thermostat, so I went though all the packets till I found one that fitted snugly and of the same profile it fits perfectly Tridon TTG26 @48mm $13.69, big price difference, if I had time and looked around I probably could have found a cheaper o ring. Would be interested if anyone is using a standard flow.
