I replaced the front pads on my K100 a few months (5000 miles ago) with EBC I bought in England, to my surprise they are down to the metal already. absolute rubbish, Ill be going back to my usual dealer in Germany for SBS.

Are you sure they're not fake?

I've used EBCs on my Ks (both 2V and 4V) for years and gotten good wear from them.

Wot Duck says. Also check that your caliper pistons are moving freely and not dragging the brakes.

the pistons are perfect so are the discs. is there such a thing as fake pads? I bought them from a mail order BMW parts dealer. not ebay.

Bet he doesn't know where they came from originally. I have a set of EBC HHs in LFB ATM; they've been there at least six months and 8000 miles and are less than half worn.

Shame the devil - who was the dealer?

SBS has very good pads, but I suggest you also interested in carbone lorraine.

Ah but have you seen the roads down JerH's way? lots of nice twisties.

But even so that sounds rather rapid wear. I pull my pads out regularly enough to clean the brakes and the last set [EBC] after 2 front tyres was only half worn so I put them back again.

I do keep plenty of spare pad sets and generally its always EBC I use. However I do recall one EBC set fitted with a front tyre in March 2014 being changed after only 7 months and about 12,000 miles when the set of pads were down so low that the friction material came off at the next front tyre change in October 2014. When I saw them I figured no more than about 10,000 miles on that set but I would be expecting around 20,000 miles on a set. I know the set that came off came from UK too.......

Are all the pads wearing evenly?

Also if front wheel is off needs to go back same way as tyre is one directional and discs should go back to the pads they had before wheel came off. The only time that need not happen is if you are changing tyre and pads at the same time.

My EBC organic pads set on rear disc weared very quickly too. Did anyone try Kyoto pads from ebay on K 100? Very cheap about 10 euro disc?

Kyoto = crap, trust me. I put a set in the Bandit and began to wonder if I'd actually got any brake pads in there at all. They went in the bin after less than 1000 miles and I replaced them with a set of Goldfren S33s (I think - the 'racing' pads, not the road pads). A massive improvement but would I put Goldfrens in the brick? No. I find they're okay for a lightweight bike but I wouldn't trust them for a hard stop on a K100.

Definately EBC, SBS or Brembos for LFB.

My rear pads don't last long. I got a brand new disc on and pads only last about 6-8000 miles and that's always been the way. But I know that's because I use the rear brake a lot, it's great for getting the K to lean in tight turns.

The organic EBC pads are fine. If you want longer lasting (harder) pads then use EBC HH, but be aware, they will last longer but will wear the discs much quicker and they are expensive!

I think the problem here is that you bought "Break" pads instead of "Brake" pads.
They're very different and do not wear at the same rate!

I've had black organic EBC pads in the front of my 8v with cast discs for the past 4K miles and they're about half worn though they have seen quite a lot of motorway in that time. I'm somewhat disappointed, as they've lasted forever on other bikes. The previous pads were Ferodo Platinums, actually not quite as good as the EBCs but they did last for about 15K.

And agree with Dai, Kyoto pads are not good and very not recommended for 8v Ks, the braking is marginal enough as it is! Also Becky used to swear by Goldfren pads in her K but I never found out which kind, though the cheapest ones would be a fair bet - they certainly seemed to work well. Personally I'm looking at EBCs new semi sintered V series for the next set of pads, they're full of copper instead of steel so hopefully they won't weld to the discs too much or eat them too quickly, but brake better than the organic ones.

Great info, thanks! I need to replace the brake pads on my 88' RT, they are not worn, have plenty of life left in them, but they do squeal like mad, especially at easy braking (which is most of the time with my riding Smile), which takes the fun out of riding.
Which pads do you recommend? I am looking for efficiency in braking, and they should be soft enough to not damage the disc. The wear is secondary for me, I do not put that many miles on my bike, so it is not an issue if I need to replace them more often.
