1 Colour originality question Wed Jun 07, 2017 6:42 am

Hey everyone, your collective opinions/advice/recommendations and criticisms are sort please. I am at the tail end of a very thorough K1 restoration. EVERYTHING has been attended to from the frame being stripped and powder coated to every seal, bearing, fastener, main seal, brake calliper kits etc, etc, etc. I am a stickler for things looking nice and being right and I have been afflicted with this disease since my first motorcycle purchase, a Suzuki T250R Hustler back '72. Anyways, the bike being a '91 was painted black - although more a very dark green, and not my favourite colour. 670 is the colour and it is offered in two variants depending on year - 91 or 92. The original owner dropped the bike, and had it repaired and repainted in Laguna Blue metallic - a far more tastier colour from 1990. Not original, but a K1 colour all the same. The bloke I bought it off had also dropped it in his garage and so had all the upper fairings painted. Again. So, much of the bike has the oem black and two layers of blue, plus all the undercoats, guide coats and clear coats. The panels he did not repaint (front guard, belly pan, centre radiator piece, tank and seat cowl) needed attention, so doing the job properly I have removed ALL the paint back to black plastic. Thing is, when I stripped these back there was 0.8mm of paint in places, and I know the panels that were repainted by the PO were not stripped back so there is around 1mm of paint in places! I have ordered the large K1 decals for the side panels but applying them would mean more clear coat...
So the question is, is the bike more valuable in its original colour, albeit, a true black or does it not really matter that much. I spent an hour in the man shed tonight pondering whether I strip all the panels right back. I'm clearly a glutton for punishment, but still enjoy the journey. My favourite panel shop allows me to do all the labour and they blow the paint on which saves me thousands of dollars. If I strip them all back then the opportunity to change colour presents itself as a option. Plan A would be to strip all the panels and repaint them all in Laguna Blue and know that it has all been done properly and the colour will match over all panels. Not the original colour but a very nice one all the same. What are your thoughts on originality?
What an effing dilemma!
