Hello all, just picked up a non running K100RTIC tonight from someone who struggled to get it going after it stood for a number of weeks.
I have Bert Vogel's excellent document so I'll start off working through that.

Been biking for years, usually ride a TDM900 and the BMW was an impulse buy, but hey ho, that's Ebay for you !

Chris

Thanks, and g'day !

I got an hour with the bike before work this morning, when i removed the rear fuel rail pipe (return pipe) nice fresh milk came out .....petrol emulsified with water !

I pumped out loads of the mix until it was almost pure petrol and she fired up after 30 seconds.... Seems to be sounding good too.

I'll fully drain the tank later and fill with fresh. Hopefully rust hasn't started in the tank.

I did notice last night when parking it up that the fuel flap is particularly tough to close and latch down properly so I guess the last owner left it parked with the flap slightly open....and as this is Scotland it is never too long before it rains again !

I need to fix up some dodgy wiring (choc block connnectors, yuk !) and the rear brake seized up as soon as I pressed the pedal down so that's a wee job too.

Hope to ride her at the weekend if not sooner !

Chris, sounds like positive news on the bike.

You may have already seen these, but a good point to start for cap maintenance...

https://www.k100-forum.com/t11200-gas-cap-assembly

and Paul's great approach to being prepared in case it all goes wrong...

I have to ask, what is a K100RTIC??? I know an RS, an RT and an LT, but never heard of an RTIC.

Maybe early police models were RTIC. LT I think came in 88.

My LT was a police model, quite a few differences in it too.

The TIC is what BMW call the Authorities model. I have often heard it called TIC but not by factory.
There is a K75RT, K100RT, K100LT and K1100LT all called Authorities models. It quite possibly means something in German but I no specken der Hun Laughing

Hello!

This are BMW tailor-made emergency and special-purpose vehicles for rescue teams, fire services, emergency physicians and police forces.

Sometimes models with some engine change.
Like a R 850 RT that doesn't appear on the free market.
The electrical parts often are different.

Cheers from Germany

R850RT was a standard production model offered to civilians on the French market, it was identical to the R1150RT just with a smaller engine.

All useful to know Smile

The speedo has an IRS sticker and serial number so I guess it is ex police ? http://www.irs-gb.com/police-en.html

I insured the bike today and got a 50 mile run, it was a bit hit and miss, power wise. but cleared up after some Italian tuning up.

A completely different style of riding compared to my tweaked TDM900 but in it's own way i can see how I could get along well with it, loafing about watching the scenery go by.

I bought it as a project, not expecting to get it running so easily. I might sell it on quickly but my wife hasn't been on the back yet, I suspect she will enjoy it !

I read about them being quite hot running.... I really enjoyed the warm air coming around my legs, but can see how it might be a bit too much in a warmer climate !

Put a 'Comfort' seat on it....best seat I ever had and will be great for pillion. If you want one.

When mine was converted back to civilian bike it got a Comfort seat but the electrics were 'interesting' as things were not where the manual said they were supposed to be so be careful on that one. The wiring wasn't butchered but as harder to find.

How dare you tempt me to something as fun as that, we've never met !

I have a friend about half an hour from there in Marsac 82120, Absolutely love it, great food in the markets....

I need to work on my better half. I might have to wallpaper the lounge as punishment (I doubt she would come too)

I need to look at my funds and make a decision later, going to the Belgian F1 GP next week, expecting to get robbed !

As for never having met, well some of us on the forum do actually meet up and that meet up in France is entirely forum connections. So too is that photo below. Also its not the first time we have been there like that......so you can see we haven't enjoyed it previously. Even Crazy Frog has been there..!
You can kayak from the camp site down to this place......Lemeuil.......behind the photographer is a lovely terrace of tables where we had Sunday lunch.....

Roscoff/Cherbourg to St Leon about 730kms or 460 miles or so.

Overnight ferry gets you some sleep!

I have family in County Down so that could be a stopover, and my gran was from Wiclow and I've heard good things about the riding in the Wiclow hills......

What are the full dates, I have a few work commitments to navigate....

I have a ferry booked for 2nd September and coming back 1st, but locally BobT lives there and he said the whole of September. He has weakness for croissants and is one of the most hospitable guys you could meet. Then there's his wife Jude, rides a Ducati....equally great fun! So don't feel tied to the dates I am going down!

And yes, you should come for one of camping weekends next year....... our favourite camp site is less than an hour from those Wicklow roads you have heard about......

Oh, my grandad came from Co Down....
