Hello from an old codger living on the far eastern part of the County of Suffolk.
I began life on bikes many decades ago aged 16, my licence issued 3 days before the age went up to 17 for a bike, in less than 12 months I had progressed from 50cc, 120cc, 250cc to a 500 Triumph. The closest I ever got to a German bike was with a 1958 250cc NSU Supermax.
I'd never thought I could afford a BMW but a year ago I was persuaded to take on this ancient E reg bike as seen in the photo for well under a grand including the panniers.
The pearl white body parts have all been repainted and I suspect that as another K100 was being refurbished at the same time, some parts may well have been mixed up, certainly the clocks as the speedo which is now in Kilometers works now and again, and possibly the black screen, but all the same, the she starts readily and runs very well.
A "Sigma 8" bicycle computer keeps me within the legal speed limits.
The starter motor did play up recently causing failure of the electrics, a clean of the armature, new brushes fitted and a tiny amount skimmed off the housing on the lathe (not by me) to take up wear fixed the problem. Mot just passed with just an advisory on front brake pads and tyre both getting low.
Despite it's age the K100RS seems comfy enough for my old bones and a willing plodder, although I'm not up to riding far these days which considering the way the engine heats my left leg, may not be a bad thing, I still have my moments of regression to the days of my youth. The mind is willing etc..........
