Never heard of it happening and may cars use a similar arrangement. You need an arc short aross a gap, like a spark plug, in fuel vapour, to get a big bang. So always disconnect battery and power off when working in tank....even if you pull the tank plug connector.

I have never heard of it happening. To ignite petrol in liquid form is almost impossible and even the vapour needs to have the air vapour mix right to ignite. I think these figures are right but I will stand corrected. If the mix is less than about 3 to 1 or over 18 to 1 then it wont ignite. That's why a lean mix wont ignite in an engine and a flooded engine wont start. Usually the pump and gauge are below the fuel level and also the air to vapour mix above the fuel level is like a flooded engine.
Almost since the advent of electric fuel gauges there has been 12v connections inside the tank and those senders would be far more likely to develop a fault where arcing would occur than a fuel pump.

I think the worst that could happen is if you had a leaking fuel line and fuel got onto a hot engine. That might set your pants on fire affraid

I think if I was the guy second from the right, I'd be moving off pretty quick.
