Hi everyone,

Although I have had 2 late-model flying bricks in the past ( a 1998 and 2002 K1200RS) these have long gone.  Below , however, is my new "barn find" first generation K100 generously donated to my by the previous owner provided I get it back on the road.

It's an early 1983, non-ABS model with just 25,000 miles.  It's  all there but been in the former owners barn since 2008 (when it developed a fuel leak that is evident on the injector cover).  First aim is to to an oily-rag restoration and just get it running.  Once that is achieved I may then try and tackle the rusty frame but as this is my first re-commissioning of a non-runner the prospect of stripping down the frame is daunting!New Brick Owner in the UK <a href=New Brick Owner in the UK 26980257121_8cd0167007_kDSC_0003 by Ian Johnson, on Flickr" />

Bit of a project Smile

Welcome to the forum!

You will find everything you need here and everyone is very helpful.

That looks a great K. Check out the home page and the section on what to do if you have just bought a K. Its very different from the K1200.

Tanks can be repaired.
The fuel cover under the tank is prone to damage by petrol so mind it carefully.
Don't go firing it up straight off, old fuel and crud in the tank will not help your injectors.
Fuel lines will be old and hard and will split as soon as you go at them, new ones are cheap too.
The frame can be done piecemeal instead of stripping it right down.
Spline lube will need doing.
Brakes probably needing seals.

Parts are easy to get but the radiator cowl is rare so mind it too.

Don't be afraid to ask questions no matter how simple that may seem. There is a huge amount of expertise on the forum and everyone is happy to help you along. Always good advice on parts too.

Pop up your VIN number too, yours is one of the earliest here.

+1 on the nice piece of kit.

Like a neglected woman, these bricks respond rather enthusiastically to a bit of TLC.

Well, it's been subject to a recommissioning rather than a restoration but it's now back on the road and now can be subjected to a gentle, restore-as-ride project Smile

For a 34 year-old bike the engine sounds really sweet.

Wow that is some good looking bike now. So well worth it.

1726 is a very early K.

Standing in a barn has done it good, polish has cleaned it up and to be honest not sure I would strip it at all.

If it hasn't been exposed to too much sun and fading that BMW paint lasts a long time and cleans up nicely most of the time.
