Although I much prefer outfits, I thought you might find this trike interesting with it's K front end. It belongs to Chris, the organiser of last weekend's camping rally at Tiverton rugby club in Devon and he's a member of the South West Section of the BMW Club UK.

The fun bit is that the 'bike part' leans 8° each side making the steering lighter than the usual rigid trike setup. Torsion bars, those red things, hold everything vertical at rest.

The rear axle is from a Reliant 3 wheeler car.

And that's my solo K in the background.

Did I mention that we were at a rugby club?

No, no, I'm not going to mention the Lions!!!

Paul.

Oh wow, that thing's a beast. Is it just the headers and no muffler? Must be loud as all hell.

"" No, no, I'm not going to mention the Lions!!!""

Oh come on Paul...you know you want to! :-) They simply did their homework very very well and were a much better side on the night!

I'm not much of a trike fan, to be honest....and this one doesn't do anything to change my mind, sorry.

is that the muffler coming up on the rh side of the diff,
plenty of luggage room under there Sean, how would Bella be on the back pillion? that backrest looks a bit awkward, maybe a bucket seat instead?

Pretty ingenious I'd say Paul. Some interesting mods on the front LHS with the rear brake reservoir and foot controls; does the exhaust exit in the centre in front of the diff?. Sure makes a change to a Cafe Racer.

Cheers
Dave

Which reminds me Paul I snapped this chair locally last week and meant to post for you and other chair enthusiasts. Originally attached to a K it was now on an 80's Yamaha. It's a Charnwood.

I have seen a few trailers like the old teardrop caravan but not a sidecar.

On the subject of the trike I think that it looks a bit unfinished but the one thing I see that I don't like is the rear shockie it has a heavy spring and I do hope the top mounting has been well strengthened with all the extra weight over the back and out a lot futher than normal it would only be a matter of time before it broke the back of the frame off. I fixed a K75 a while ago and have seen a K 100 that had been repaired. I don't think its as common as the snapping bolt trick but it happened.

Would seem quite do able to add a second shock & spring to the left side since it appears to be an A frame????
That way could divide the load????

The silencer is a long tubular thing that runs under the diff; it sounds much like a normal K.

Dave, the rider has only one foot so the footbrake is operated by his left foot (he usually rides feet forward) and the gears are changed with a 'click-shift' solenoid switched with buttons on the left handlebar, a popular system for disabled riders.

That Charnwood sidecar has similarities with Busmar chairs of the '50's but it's much wider. How many Bellas could you get in there???

Paul.

what I like about this trike is........ it is a trike, unlike the bon trikes (VW version) with the engine at the rear.
good to see the effort he has put in to allow him the bike /K experience, well done.
hope he is enjoying it all.

I suppose that's a root of my 'issues' with trikes...all the ones I see are VWs with fascist Ulysses members who don't have a bike licence.

A trike is a sidecar with a different wheel arrangement.

Embrace the force Saxon7 (said in a manner to make it sound like 'embrace the force Luke, (but not so much like star wars and more like...something that is more bmw like than star wars)')
I hope my brackets are in the right spot or folks mite git conphused

Bwahahaha fascist those goons wouldn't know which way their arse was facing if they were lying on their big fat gut. Most of the ones with a bike can't ride outa sight on a dark night.

The root of my issues with trikes is that they use the same technique for right or left hand corners....how weird is that!

And they have all the disadvantage of being as wide as a sidecar, with no more carrying capacity than a solo.

Did I mention that I like sidecars?

Paul.

Been on gumtree for a while too Rob,
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-newcastle/k100+trike/k0l3003104
possibly too high priced due to the cost of the eagle rear suspension.
don't know the advantages if any?

From an Aussie point of view (although the rest feel free to chip in {if you have ideas} without recourse).

[Nice use of brackets (rossko note)].

What would be the ideal rear end set up for a trike, I have heard mention of a Diahatsu diff being
compatible. I seem to have a few too many engines and gear boxes here.

I'm sorry Alan, sadly, Chris died from prostate cancer last year, but I did see the trike for sale on e-bay some time ago so it must still be around, but where??

That sad Paul sorry to hear that Paul, I am looking to find a kit or plans to copy and convert a K100 for my mate into a trike he likes the look of the K100 trikes very much and the 8 degrees tilt was very appealing to me personally but it will have to wait until my diesel K100 gets finished it is a long winded build hahaha.
Very sorry to hear about your mate passing its always sad loosing friends and family.
ALAN
