Hi all,
I was wondering if the BEP 3.0 replaces the ECU ('87 K100), or is it simply an addition?
I want to get rid of my air-box and sensor, and install a right proper ECU on to the unit.

What would your recommendations be for a low-cost ECU replacement?

Thanks,
D

The BEP 3.0 is not an ECU replacement and does not interact at all with the bike's FI system.  It replaces functions that get lost when you discard the OEM instrument cluster during a customization.

If you want to get rid of the airbox and sensor, you'll have to discard the Jetronic and build a EFI system from scratch. Others have used a Megasquirt with some success on a K75.

There is no such thing as a low cost ECU even a Microsquirt DIY will cost well over $1000 once it is up and running.
The K100 ECU is a very good unit even considering the design is over 30 years old. Some have used the MAF unit without the air box and used a pod filter but that looks worse than the original and is open to the weather etc. but I suppose that riding it in the rain would be out of the question you would need to hide under an overpass with all the Harley jockeys.
