When I got this bike the tank was full of this ancient fuel .It was this murky orange brow colored liquid and I knew that I needed to replace the entire fuel delivery system.So,I drained it then cleaned out the crud with a scraper and stiff brushes using kerosene as a solvent. I got it pretty clean ,had to work hard at some of the hardened crud but it came off.I was left with a clean tank with this orange film.I washed it out with Mr Clean full strength but it wouldn't touch it.I thought about it all winter long as I gathered the parts to do this job and today I decided to clean it with this phosphoric acid solution used to wash truck bodies.It worked like a charm and now I'm ready to put all new stuff in the tank.Here are some photos from before during and after. I have replaced the lines going down to the pressure regulator,cleaned the injectors,the injector rail,the air filter,and gave it fresh oil.Next it's the pump,filter,and gauge sender.In the last photo you can see a line with a bit of hose still on it up top to the rear of the fill hole . Can anyone tell me
what goes there?

On my bike, there is a pipe from the base of my fuel pump's filter screen up to this pipe.

I have that anti-cavitation setup on my bike's pump. There was no hose attached to it when I bought the bike; the bike has always run well, both before and after I installed the hose. I ride in temperate weather most of the time but if I were in a hot climate or in heavy traffic frequently it might inhibit vaporizing fuel from affecting the pump's operation. The filter basket gets oriented so the tube passes clearly though the slot indicated by the arrow in the photo.

Thank You both for your answers to my question.I'm not sure if the EuroMotoElectric pump and filter I bought have this feature ,I'll look when I work on it again this Sunday. If it does have it  then I guess I'll need to chase down another special submersible hose .It's good to know the bike will work with or without it.I don't do traffic much if at all really and here in NY the weather is temperate but this may be a problem when I move to the desert out in Arizona  but that's a couple years away so.

The 52mm pump has the basket and hose. The 43mm uses a fuel sock. If yours had a remnant of hose clinging to that pipe, it's likely a 52mm unless that hose fragment is an ancient artifact from a previous pump replacement.

Thanks, I just went out to the garage and looked.The old pump had it and so does the new one .I'm assuming EME included this line in the kit. So the mystery is solved.When I took it all apart the lines were all broken and it was a total mess in there so I had no real image of what was supposed to be.This Chiltons book is lacking in information as usual.I'm spoiled,my Moto Guzzi manuals are factory service manuals as are my Yamaha books for my old 2 strokes. The Yamaha manuals are incredible.They are like a blueprint to the motorcycle showing every component and how they go together right down to the washers,and cotter pins.

Very Cool ! You can be sure I'll be buying a good service and parts book.There is nothing better than the real thing .Thanks .Oh yeah,I don't have an 850 Le Mans I have a 1975 850-T .Here is a photo of her on a 14000 mile ride I took on her all over North America  back in '10
