Thanks guys.

Lake Country is in The Okanagan valley in British Columbia. Four small towns combined to form one larger town so they could reduce costs of services. We are just north of Kelowna if you care to take a look in Google Maps.

Bike insurance is quite pricey here but if your bike is 25 years or older you can qualify for a "Collector" plate at a very reduced rate but I have to get my '85 K100RS back to showroom condition. It has 170,000 Kms but runs just fine. The rear end and splines have been rebuilt and a new clutch plate was put in 20,000 ago. The next big hurdle is a complete paint job. I sanded it all down and just took the pieces in for priming today. I hope to get it on the road soon.

Cheers from BC.  If you are looking for parts, try Shails in Langley, and Beemer Boneyard in the US of A.  Shails will ship to you.  Good aftermarket BMW supplier.  My 88 K100RS is running collector plates.

Good to know club_c. I've sourced parts from Beemer Boneyard before, does Shails have a supply of used parts?
I changed my bike from an RT to an RS way back in '88. Back then I painted the engine cases and fork tubes black and color matched the saddle bags in an effort to upgrade the look. Now I'm doing a lot of work to undo it all!
Does your '88 RS have the clear windshield or the black tinted one? I think only the clear was available in '85 but whether ICBC cares remains to be seen.
My tank and fairing is at the body shop now getting a coat of primer. I believe Karibic blue (#618) is the correct color for '85 RS's.

Yes Shails has some used parts. Worth a call. They have a toll free number on their website. ICBC won't mind the darker windshield on your 85. I've collector plated 3 k100's so know what they're looking for. PM me for a further discussion on that.

It would be good to know how to jump through the hoops at ICBC.
I could not figure out how to send you a PM but I changed my preferences to allow members to send me an e-mail. If you start, I'll outline my concerns re collector status.
Thank you

Welcome to the forum.
It is not overly difficult to get collector plates for these bikes as long as they look clean (no major dents or rust) in  the photographs. They don't seem to get too particular about a different seat or whether the windscreen is black or clear or in my case a different muffler.
My 1986 production bike is on a collector plate (approximately $200 for eight months coverage). If I ever get my 1984 production bike restored (very slow process) including a new paint job I will insure it under collector status as well. I also have a 1980 Yamaha XS400 on its own collector plate.

Thanks Shep. The collector application form stipulates the seat must be original, perhaps they won't look too closely. Those original bench seats could have been used by the Spanish Inquisition!

The application will also tell you that "period correct" aftermarket items are acceptable.  Such as a Corbin seat...
