OK a K75S, a 1987, at least 98K miles (when the odo stopped working yrs ago)  I noticed a drip of oil from the water/oil pump tell tale drain.
I went for a reconditioned pump from Motorworks in Yorkshire.

Installation without a problem, yesterday. Left 24hrs to let sealant do it's thing.

Today, put fluids back into bike , it fired up...............to my horror oil was simply pissing out of the tell tale drain, not a drip a stream.

NOT when bike running of oddly only when I switched off

Not well pleased, however let it run to see if it would need to bed in/settle in.

And lo, after a wee while it did, after losing about 100mls or so of oil.

Stopped bike and topped up to the dot, bloody thing started to piss oil again, bike NOT running.

Start the bike, the leak stops, stop the bike it starts to leak UNTIL the level disappears from the sight glass window, then it stops.

200 pounds for a reconned pump and it leaks Sad

BUT I am intrigued that it leaks only when engine stops and only until level drops to below the sight glass.

Now , have Motorworks  neglected install the oil seal, or is it badly installed ?

OR, could it be the o ring on the smaller toothed gear wheel ???

OR something else, any help very much appreciated, Johnny Scotland

PS this is not the same bike that had the water in the tank problem recently

Just sitting here cogitating, it's legal here !

Wondering if I blocked the wee half moon return drain to the sump, though I tried hard not to.
Would that give me these symptoms ?

Though I am erring on the side of the oil seal being put in "back to front" by Motorworks.
It can happen to anyone,a moments inattention etc.

The "dome" of the seal should be shaft side and the wire insert oil side,or else the seal is useless and oily incontinence will result Sad

That'll teach me NOT to DIY and take the easy route of shelling out for a reconditioned item :/

Of course I am only guessing, so all you spanner spinners out there come in with yer tuppence worth Smile

Hi, not as yet. Come Monday morning I will.   I am sure they will sort something out, not meaning to impune their reputation in any way,as I have always had
top notch service from them.   I was looking for some ideas from the hive mind for reasons for the leak.
It is always far too easy to block the half moon return passage, for instance, but I don't know how this would manifest itself.

I had the same problem with a rebuilt pump from Motorworks last year.

My exchange pump leaked coolant straight away.  not best pleased to say the least...

Motorworks were very helpful and sent a second unit the next day.

The second unit was okay, though I filled the water side and checked first before fitting it.

Considering they recondition lots of pumps, their quality control should be improved.

Hi, interesting. I filled the oil side first, then the water Smile

I had an interesting discussion on the phone with Motorworks, the lady was very pleasant, but she said the mechanic had looked at the  returned pump and said it was OK. MMMhh I thought, must have x ray vision because when I asked what he found on disassembly she said he hadn't actually taken it apart.

She then went to say that the mechanic had said that only water would drip from the tell tale, of course, I had to disagree and that if the mechanic said that, he doesn't know much about BMW bikes.

I was also offered the parts to fix the unit if I wanted it returned !!!
I declined the offer.

TBH this has dented my confidence in MW to some extent, pity as they have always been excellent in the past and they did return a good unit (so far at least), very swiftly.

Interesting to hear that you got a dud unit too, mhhhh

Anyway, cheers and ride safe everyone
