You can bolt the K1100LT or RS three spoke wheel straight in to the K100. The LT uses the same tire size as the K100 but the RS uses a wider radial.
If you use the wider RS wheel you will need to remove the centre stand or find an RS one. Some who have done the mod have found that sometimes the tire fouls the exhaust. Although I tried it and it cleared with no problem.

have you done that mod on the current bike CJ? Did you need to change the centre stand?

So my plan is to fit a k1100rs wheel with a narrow tyre

Could i keep the k100 shaft drive system then? I've not got centre stand and my exhaust are changed

Hi thumper. Yes, the RS uses an 18" rear rim but it is wider for the lower profile radial tyre.
Be very careful about putting a narrow tyre on it. Sounds iffy, maybe dangerous. Can't afford to lose any forum members.
Both the LT 17" and the RS 18" should fit straight in to the monolever rear on the 8v K's.
Hi Will. No, haven't bothered with this one. To busy riding it.
Although, my old LT is for sale.
Winter project maybe...

The RS wheel is 4.5" wide and the LT one is 3.5". If you fitted a tyre for the LT to the RS rim it would stress the bead and alter the profile, flattening it. The K1100LT takes a 140/18 so you would get a bit more rubber than the K100.

I have a K1100LT that I'm looking to fit 1100RS wheels to. I'd offer to swap but I need to source a suitable front wheel.

The K100RS 16v is also 18". I think that they are the same as the 1100.
MikeP, I have a pair of 3 spoke 16 valve wheels here front and back. Catch a ferry and come down, we can sort out a price :-)

Still unsure if they make a narrow 3 spoke rear wheel in 18 inch

The three spoke rear wheel is in two sizes:

3" x 17" OE fit for K75S, K100LT and K1100LT. The standard tyre sizes are 130/17 for the K75 & K100, 140/17 for the K1100LT, all are bias-belted (crossply).

4.5" x 18" fit for K1, K100RS 16v and K1100RS. All take 160/18 Radial tyre.

So the answer is no. There's no 3" x 18" rear wheel.

Yes but you'd need to change the final drive housing (and the brake pedal stuff), plus it would be the old design. The three spoke wheel was only fitted to K75 models after the 'C' designation was dropped and all models had a disc rear brake.

Running a narrow tyre on such a wide rim is not the best idea
I don't really use the rear brake so drum would not bother me

18" wheels

K75C (8 spoke)- narrow 18" with drum

K100RS-16v and K1100RS (3 spoke)- wider 18" with disk.

There is no 3 spoke narrow 18" wheel available.  The 1100LT 3 spoke is a 17"

Straight off the shelf the K75c drum wheeled final drive is a 3.2:1 ratio AS IS MOST k75 fd's drum or disc and the K100rt is 2.9:1 and the K100RS IS 2.8:1, but it would be possible to use the final drive of your choise in the drum casing if you so choose. But just running a straight K75 drum rear will see you doing 4200rpm at 100kph, so its like 400rpm more than you are used to, perhaps like driving a 3speed auto after using a 4speed for ages you notice the rpm.

Don't do loads of riding on it any way.

Would i leave the drive shaft and then bolt the final drive bit on?

Yes, almost.

The drumbrake final drive will bolt on, but you will have to also change the brake pedal and linkage as your rear brake pedal/master cylinder will no longer be of any use.

One other thing to consider is the final drive spline itself.  The earlier drives have a 16 tooth spline, the later drives a 20 tooth spline.

Your 'new' drumbrake final drive may or may not be the same spline count as your existing final drive.  If it is, it will slip straight on.  If it's not you will need to replace the driveshaft also.

So your shopping list is:

  1. A drumbrake final drive

  2. Brake pedal and linkages to suit

  3. An 18" rear wheel

  4. Possibly a driveshaft to match the spline on the final drive

Al
