I drink scotch, but I alternate with Irish Wiskey. Bushmills is one of my favourite, and YES you nailed it down when you came to Halifax with a bottle of Bushmills.
Most of Ireland is sedimentary.......but Bushmills comes from an area that is not and in fact you can see Scotland from there....
A little geography/geology: Antrim coast is basalt columns, most famous being the Giants Causeway just a stones throw from Bushmills, a line that heads up through Scotland with places like the Kilt Falls [you only see it from the sea as you sail past] and most amazingly the incredible basalt columns at Fingal's Cave [inspired Mendehlsson's Hebridean Suite when he went there] on the island of Staffa. They sure do make good whisky [and tweed] on the Hebrides......and I can remember it. Anytime I take a Scotch it reminds me of those places.
Like Guinness and wines it has to do with the local climate, soil and water.
We did have an Eccentrics outing to Bushmills a few years back, on one of our Norn Iron meet ups.
Now we know there are direct flights from Canada to Dublin so some time on your way to France you could do a stopover here. The Eccentrics would love to see you come over this way too!
Amazing forum, I would love to see Canada, then one time Indian036 suggested a sailing trip around Sydney Harbour which I would love, BobT has suggested microlighting down in France, JediGril at one point suggested a K ride of Eccentrics to Europe to stay at her place in Poland. I think now if I won the lottery my idea of a round the world trip would be to visit every K forum member!
As for riding all year, my son and myself took our bikes out Jan 2nd and went to west Cork where we had breakfast on the beach in calm clear sunshine, blue skies and a blue sea. Being in bike gear the 4c temperature didn't bother us one bit but we had a fabulous ride out and back along the coast on part of the Wild Atlantic Way.
