I'll have to review my motto of "Every day is a good day for a ride - some are just better than others."

Today was just TOOO HOT in our parts.

Went outside to try to save the herb garden about 3:30pm and here are the temps on my verandah.

In the shade 48 degC/118 degF
Too Hot to Ride Today Img_2619

In the sun 59 degC/138 degF
Too Hot to Ride Today Img_2620

Still over 40 degC at almost 8:00pm.

So any of my friends in the northern hemisphere that are enjoying some frost or snow I'd love some this way.

Cheers

Just contemplating taking the K to town. Its about 0c here but sun is now out. These days I love the centrally heated gas tank on the K, especially good if the fuel level is low.

Bloody ridiculous today mate.  We get a few 45 degree days out here west of Campbelltown, but I just cannot remember it being over 40 degrees at 8pm at night.  I was on the bike today - commuting up the M5.  The main tunnel really tests the Triumphs cooling system to the limit.  If I don't filter up the centre of the two lanes I will overheat in there, as I have done once before.  As soon as I get back out into the fresh 40 degree air the temp gauge comes back to normal.  It was 40 degrees at Campbelltown at 6pm, but as I headed west up Narellan Road to my place I could feel a sudden jump as the air around me got 5 degrees hotter.  I have a temp gauge on the dash.  45 when I got home about 6:30pm.

It was 40 at 8pm and it felt like walking outside into an oven, then we had a quick storm with brief heavy rain, and the temp dropped 10 degrees in 10 minutes.  Now it's like walking out into a sauna instead of an oven.

Where's my beer?  Beer drinker

We'd love to share some of the cold, just jump on a plane with Ruth again and come on over and stay.
Relatively mild in the south UK - just a dusting of snow yesterday and temps hovering around 2 deg C today but with a wicked bit of wind chill.

With your hot parts and our cold parts - no wonder the earth wobbles on it's axis!

The important part of that photo is my avatar, in recognition of how special that day was for me.

Hope to be able to briefly catch up with an eccentric or two late June, early July.

Temperatures down here in Goulburn not as high as Gaz's place, but not too far off. Not a bike day on a fully faired RT.

Bill

The 'I think' was prompted by my being a little uncertain as to who was next to Bjorn until I remembered Magda coming along that day and I didn't have a clear image.

That was a good day and if you are coming along late June/early July do let us know. We might be able to organise another little sojourn on a K. For both of you.

This is why I like living in the high country, a top of 30 degC here in Guyra with overnight temps of 18 degC , still bloody hot for Guyra! Elevation is a wonderful thing as you only have to travel 2 hours down the hill to hit 40 + temps. Bring on the cool change.

Our local substation failed for the second time this week yesterday. A long blackout meant no AC. Still well over 30c through most of the night.

Too hot to ride? I dont get a choice, the mail has to go through> At least we got an early start yesterday and got most of it done before the heat really ramped up.  Couldn't survive without my Camelbak.

That's what you get for drinking Scotch. Scotland is all volcanic and Edinburgh sits on some now extinct volcanos. Try a smoother Irish, most of Ireland [but not all] is sedimentary and more stable!

The payback in smithy's high country is the other end of the year. At least in Goulburn I've never had to contend with black ice!

At least none of us in Oz have to deal with anything like the negative temperatures, and total non-riding months, that some of our North American and European friends have to contend with.
(That's a hint, friends. When you can't ride there, come here. Very Happy)

I drink scotch, but I alternate with Irish Wiskey. Bushmills is one of my favourite, and YES you nailed it down when you came to Halifax with a bottle of Bushmills. Too Hot to Ride Today 1181537659

Most of Ireland is sedimentary.......but Bushmills comes from an area that is not and in fact you can see Scotland from there....

A little geography/geology: Antrim coast is basalt columns, most famous being the Giants Causeway just a stones throw from Bushmills, a line that heads up through Scotland with places like the Kilt Falls [you only see it from the sea as you sail past] and most amazingly the incredible basalt columns at Fingal's Cave [inspired Mendehlsson's Hebridean Suite when he went there] on the island of Staffa. They sure do make good whisky [and tweed] on the Hebrides......and I can remember it. Anytime I take a Scotch it reminds me of those places.

Like Guinness and wines it has to do with the local climate, soil and water.

We did have an Eccentrics outing to Bushmills a few years back, on one of our Norn Iron meet ups.

Now we know there are direct flights from Canada to Dublin so some time on your way to France you could do a stopover here. The Eccentrics would love to see you come over this way too!

Amazing forum, I would love to see Canada, then one time Indian036 suggested a sailing trip around Sydney Harbour which I would love, BobT has suggested microlighting down in France, JediGril at one point suggested a K ride of Eccentrics to Europe to stay at her place in Poland. I think now if I won the lottery my idea of a round the world trip would be to visit every K forum member!

As for riding all year, my son and myself took our bikes out Jan 2nd and went to west Cork where we had breakfast on the beach in calm clear sunshine, blue skies and a blue sea. Being in bike gear the 4c temperature didn't bother us one bit but we had a fabulous ride out and back along the coast on part of the Wild Atlantic Way.

Up to now, I could have been riding the sidecar as we only had one big snow storm and the temperature went over the melting point for over a week. (Today we are in the negative again ... -12 feeling or -20 with the windshield factor).
But.... The sidecar is out of commission for a while. It should be nice and shinny for the next riding season. I just have not decided on the colour yet.
When the whole bike was resprayed (Certainly in Florida), the painter didn't use a water filter and tiny little water droplets were trapped between the coat of primer and the paint. With our Canadian cold, the water froze and thousand of little bubbles started to pop out all over. The bike had the Kpox! Too Hot to Ride Today 340248
