Having same problem of excessive noise when engine was cold, today I tried to do something with alternator which together with clutch was usual suspect. I always thought that three hard metal to metal point of alternator to engine block resonate too much. I have new bearings in alternator but it didnt help.
Just for test I removed alternator and put three rubber nitrile washers resistant to heat (100 C) and push it back. After bolt tightening I started the cold engine.
Noise partialy dissapeared. Ok I heard the cluth but only with released lever. With engaged lever engine was quiet even on low cold rpms.
Did anyone tried this method? What is experience with rubber washer durability? I used 2 mm thick washer inside diameter 8 mm. When tighten probably squeeze to 1 mm between block and three contacts.
Best regards
