I live in the Peoples Republic of Vermont, USA.

I own a 1995 K75 that is my steady transportation six months per year. The other six months it's on the lift freezing in the workshop. It's got 57,000 miles on it. It's been no problem except for diverting most of my potentially productive hours into riding as if I have an important mission—an illusion that is clearly unravelling locally. There seem to be many skilled riders on the K100 Forum from whom I could learn much if I weren't so easily distracted by indistinct noises and grandiose schemes.

Nevertheless, I will strive to contribute here—between naps, riding, chainsaw operating, wood splitting, snowplowing, and loitering elsewhere—from my vast store of barely-tangential-to-K-bike experience, information and opinion as a means to foster camaraderie, awe and reverence.

I've read all this site's rules, guidelines and advisories; they have become integral parts of my being. If my post count exceeds 11, there's no telling where it will end.

Thanks for providing the open invitation.

Welcome to the forum! I got dropped off in Williston in the dead of Winter having never even seen snow fall in my short life and nearly froze my fingers off. If it wasn't for the F111s of the Vermont National Guard going overhead at five AM I'd never been able to get up to deliver the Burlington Free Press on my bicycle in two feet of snow. I managed less than a year there but returned later on my R75 to win an award for riding steadily down three two-by-fours placed end to end at the BMWMOA National Rally in Rutland in '78. I still have that thing somewhere in a cupboard, the award, that is, and the bike too, back in Australia. How's Ethan these days? I'll bet he and the boys would have a thing or two to say about the state of things.

Dead as ever, so it seems. If he would say anything it probably be more complaints about New Yorkers. He'd like how the land values have risen though, being that he was a speculator-patriot.

My first experience of real cold was in Vermont in the dead of winter, too, Two Wheels Better. When the plane left Miami it was 80ºF. It landed midday in Burlington after a 16" nighttime snowfall. The sun was bright; the air was crystalline and the snow was glistening. I walked to the terminal from the plane—that's how long ago this happened—and when I kissed my girl friend as we stood at the entrance to the building, she said, "Glad you made it! How about some ice cream before we head to my place?" The air temperature was 10ºF.

Thank you all for your cordiality!

Welcome Laitch!  This is a great place to meet K riders from around the globe.  Lots of great info here as well.

Vermont is on my list of places where I'd like to ride one of my bricks this Fall.  Do you think they'll let this New Yawker in?

That's the local, water-conserving car wash, Chocolate. Clients can only wash one end at a time.

Rest assured, .75, the time-honored, oft-repeated, fractious salutation of "Welcome to Vermont! Now, go home!" is going the way of the Tasmanian tiger and being supplanted by the cheery query, "Hi! Debit or credit?"

Come on over and ride the wild tar snakes of the Green Mountains!

Don't be so quick to make that statement. Just like ol' Nessie, there've been some startling re-discoveries of late!

I wasn't asserting it was extinct, just rare—like the Thylacine and the catamount. Given the economic implications, the Thylacine's comeback is more likely. In fact, it's become my favorite marsupial!
