Greetings! Glad to be a new member of the forum. In my research on the K-bikes I have enjoyed reading through several threads and posts to further familiarize myself. I figured I may as well join while I'm at it. 

I have my sights set on a used 87 K100R Stock at a local dealer currently, and if all goes as planned, I will complete my endoresement class this weekend and by next weekend be behind-bars on said K100.

Thanks in advanced for the warm welcomes (and the potential finger-wagging for choosing a K100 as a first bike).

There's no such thing as a K100R. Do you mean K100RT?

If you're just getting your endorsement then it sounds like you might be newish to riding. If that is the case and the bike is an RT model then be aware that a K100RT is a heavy and, more importantly, topheavy bike which is easy to nap (fall to one side by accident) if you're not careful.

Especially at first, be careful not to let the bike lean too much to one side when stopped. If you let it lean past its tipping point then it WILL go down and there's not much you can do to stop it. If it does go past the tipping point, get your foot on the downward side out of the way and do what you can to make the nap as gentle as possible.

At slow speeds, especially turning, (like in a parking lot or doing a U-turn) do not use the front brake, only the rear brake. Using the front brake on slow turns is a common mistake for nOObs and causes a lot of unintentional naps to occur.

It is not an ideal first bike but not impossible to learn/develop your riding skills on. At speed you will probably be fine, it's the slow stuff that will bite you.

sorry, yes it is a stock K100, not an R nor RT, pardon my typo.

I work at a Harley Dealership as a porter, and have handled several Sportsters and baggers, though only walking them so far, and I have been told the Sporties are very top heavy as well. I will definitely heed the advice nonetheless, and it does not go under appreciated.

Welcome to the family.  Yes, those are wise words from Mr. Duck.  I'd just like to add that gravel or any unpaved parking lot should be regarded with suspicion.  It's a trap!  Don't do it!

LoL !!! and trust me with the fact that this is the place to get any and all info you will ever need to help you with your new (to you) brick , im in the middle of doing a cafe build on one of mine as we speak and i could not have done it without the help of the people here on this sight so that being said have fun keep the wind in your face and your two wheels down
