Hi friends. New to the forum. Im a pastor and live in Spokane, WA just picked up two K100's CHEAP. One has a salvage title but strong engine and tranny. It started life as an LT and the owner laid it down destroying the fairings but not hitting the frame or tank etc but insurance totaled it so its salvage title now. He got some ratty RS fairings and put it on the bike and road it for another two years. The second bike is a clean title RS that the owner put full Dress LT fairing on and then had the oil pump fail on the free way. By the time he got pulled over safely it was starved for oil and the engine was mostly toast. Planning on swapping engines stripping it down and making onE clean title cafe-ish or something project and parting the LT fairings out to recoup cost. ( let me know if your interested in them they are complete and in great shape and BIG) This is my fourth bike build. I have usually worked on older Japanese bikes ( a '82 Suzuki GS650, '78 Yamaha XS400, and a 83 Honda CB 

650sc Nighthawk) I'm looking forward to the challenge of the bike and always loved the "flying brick" look and durability. I'll post up a thread once I get started on the projects.

Nice little project you have there and great to have a salvage bike as a ready source of spares. Surprised at the oil starved engine being toasted so quickly, as ever, there is always at least 3 sides to every story and I wonder how fast the previous owner was going at the time or how long it took him to pull over (minutes, days , weeks???). Personally, I would but one complete bike together (the LT since the fairings look in good nick) rather than going down the rat route...but that's just my personal preference for a ridable bike, however, I do have an amusing picture in my head of a pastor on a rat bike...

Nice to have you here ! A 'fulldress LT' indeed is BIGGGG, but tmho the most comfy of choices.
(Leaning over on the sidestand as in your pictue it seems to tip over every second... Always wondered why the Germans made this angle on the jiffy.)

Sounds like you're not too sure what you want to do with the old girl just yet. I'd suggest riding her as is for a few months. You'll appreciate the Komfort and Konvenience the LT fairing offers. Just perfect out on the road on a long road trip or picking up some supplies from the local store. Getting caught in the rain and not getting wet is a big bonus.

Whatever you do, do it on the frame with the clean title.  Haven't tried to get a WA rebuilt title from a salvage title myself but from what I have heard the State Patrol is very nit-picky and unless you make a salvage vehicle "like new" they won't let you change the title. (As opposed to some other states where you just have to make it roadworthy with working brakes, lights, horn, etc...)

Since summers are pretty hot in E WA you probably don't want to go the RT/LT route unless you like having your thighs cooked at stop lights.

Welcome to the forum.  Lots of help and advice here, and the price is right!  

I'm  fairly positive I want to  strip it down make it lighter and more nimble. I totally agree that the LT is  a great cruiser but not my style of riding. I'm not sure if I'm going to go with the classic cafe racer  tail fairing and round headlight look. I  am toyin' with the idea of putting a Ducati GT1000 tail on it or making it a little more streetfighter looking with maybe a CBR1000rr tail and a  modified/fabricated front fairing of some kind with a  touch of naked bike flair.

So this is me at the track and more my riding style:
