Hi
When I travel in Europe accommodation is the biggest expense.
I have found camping solo eats into my time as often it takes me till 10/11 to pack a damp (more from condensation then rain) tent and load everything onto the bike.
So I thought I would start a thread on good, cheap alternatives to camping.
Has anyone tried Couchsurfing, airbnb or hostels as these look promising.
Also cheap "hidden gems" would be useful knowledge from forum members.
This thread has been prompted by me posting the following recommendation on advice for a trip to Scotland
" http://www.lochinvermission.org.uk/
It has been recently rebuilt with lottery money and has the best sea food in the town. The locals go there to eat. It is a BYOB restraunt.
In summer you may need to book in advance as some organisations have found it out."
Maybe contributors could give google map locations with their posts and a commentary
I recommend tact in less then good reviews such as -
"opportunities for improvement" = not good
"Significant opportunities for improvement" = Bad
"---also good" = avoid at all costs
(I got these from an Italian diplomat)
