Hi everybody,

our tool shop in Alsace is enriched by a new project: rebuilding a K100RS.
We got the machine in exchange of a KTM super motard with a broken engine. The K has valves that were too tight and blew until the compression was gone.
My son and I now look for either rebuilding the cylinder head or a replacement engine. If anybody can help us with a working 4-valve motor block and not too far away, we will be happy to hear from you.

Greetings
Matt and Luc

Hi there Matt and Luc !
Nice to have you here, very welcome !

I'm living in the Netherlands, near Aachen so that would be about 430 km's (Google-maps  Laughing) to your place.
I'm sorry to hear that your engine past away, but as it happens: I butchered my K100RT, build 1987, 121.000 km.
The engine cannot be tested, but cilinders, valves and pistons should be OK.
Wat is lying around right now is the 'under' half of the engine, so no injectors, waterpump, clutch, engine covers, oilpan etc. Just the 'raw' block, weighing around 40 kg ?!

I'd be happy to send it over or you can pick it up at my place, whatever ? No worries about the price: a bottle of whatever brand of beer will do. Cool

Cheers

Jos

I am a bit confused between Baden-Baden and Alsace Question
Yes, I know Germany and France borders don't exist anymore and this is part of the free border crossing setup in Schengen. We are the same here on this forum and whoever own a K bike is part of the family.
You will get the best help here (very friendly with a smile). A Sunday trip to Holland and you will be rewarded with an (almost) free engine block. Just the cost of a couple Heineken!..
This is a sweet deal!

Wilkomen, Bienvenue or Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
We live in Alsace since 1990, it is one of these Fachwerk framework farmhouses, the barn homes several bikes and a nice toolshop with view across the rhine valley to Baden-Baden. I am German, my son Luc is born here. Perfect example what an open Europe makes possible. My father and my grandfather fought in both wars. That is history.
Greetings to all.
Matt and Luc

I I have to get used to using the forum, I just answered I guess to all five of you who have replied to my introduction.
Holland. Not far. We could do the trip on a day, but tell me more about the engine block. Is it a four valve? And it doesnt need to be for some Heineken! I destill quetsch and mirabelles for me and my people, that would be the better present if we come to you. Plus whatever the engine is worth.

1th of July we plan on spending the weekend in Spa, first time. Several friends plan to come as well. I started with an XT500 in 1980, still have her and love it. Since last year, my wife has to put up with more beauties in the barn: R 100 GS Paris-Dakar from 1990, a friend passed it on to me. Now Luc will have his first BMW with the K100RS. To Spa I would come with the GS.

I would be really happy if your sweat deal will get our K100RS back alive.
Greetings from Matt and Luc

Hey Jos,
thanks for your generous offer, I would come and get it, just for the fun to meet and talk to you and learn more about the Ks. For us, the concern is the cylinder head, some of the valves (did they have four valves in 1987?) are damaged from the lack of seal. If we can get a working motor block, it should be fine, injectors, waterpump etc. is undamaged. Injectors will need an overhaul, the bike stood for long. Alltogether we will need to inspect and refresh the bike.
I could load our four-wheeled mule with good beer from Alsace, or even better with some of my home-made quetsch. Finest stuff, not sold, only for family and friends. ;-)
Greetings
Matt and Luc

September 1984 IS a day to remember....
Chancellor Kohl and president Mitterand walked hand to hand in Verdun to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the 1st world war.
This is a picture to pass to the future generations!

Yes, and to my disappointment it is a 2 valve block. We will keep on searching. Next time in Europe, you are invited to stop by and test our carefully refined double distilled schnaps.
