Hello again folks ...

I need to fabricate a battery clamp for my RS and I don't have the original.

From what I can see the battery clamp may also be potentially part of the header tank securing?

I am hoping someone may have some photos of how this is meant to look installed?

You're right, it captures the overflow bottle as well as holds the battery.  Picture showing the battery holder from up top.



It's a straight bar with two holes and a rubber bumper on one end.  The holes line up with the threaded holes on the battery tray and the rubber bumper lines up with the bulge on the top of the overflow tank. In the photo, you can just catch a glimpse of one of the hold-down bolt heads at the far left of the picture (under the fram member), and the rubber bumper on the far right (also under the frame member).  The head of the second hold-down bolt is clearly visible.

Hi Robmack, it makes sense now and looks pretty straight forward to fabricate.

Do you have ideas what no 18 is in this image? I don't see it in your Photo.

This must be the frame/holder for the ecu.
Normally you have to take it off before installing the batterie.
My is different, I have plastic frame/bag for the ecu.

#18 is used on the models equipped with Motronic MA 2.1 (early 4V models).
#16 is the one as in Robmack's picture, and used on all 2V models.

The Motronic is for the 16Valve engines and 2v means the 8 valve engines
Roughly 8 valve engines were in the RT/LT till early 1992 and RS till 1988/89 and then the 16 Valve engines were in the RS till the K1100 RS was introduced in 1992 and from the end of production of the 8 Valve engines in 1992 or round about. The 2 valves /cylinder was still in the K75 till the end of them in 1995.

.... in other words... yours is a much earlier 8v and doesn't have motronic control unit so that battery bracket does not apply to your machine.

8 valve is also refered to as a 2 valve. ie; 2 valves per cylinder = 8 valve total.
The later engines had 4 valves per cylinder = 16 valves total

The 8v engines used the Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection control unit (FICU- under the seat. sometimes refered to as the ECU) plus a separate ignition control unit (ICU - under the tank). Later 16 valve engines combinded these 2 units into the the Motronic control unit.
