First thing I'm going to do is the monkey nuts on Alt. Have manuals coming in for the bike.

I did my monkey nuts a few weeks ago, started as a simple job. I was told I should take out starter motor but the three Allen bolts proved accessible without taking starter motor off, I was able to guide the Allen key in between the alternator and starter to get at the third one that's almost hidden. 2 are very visible and you can work out where the third one is. The replacement of the monkey nuts was easy enough in the end.

BUT, it involves gas tank off and back on. Check out your fuel lines, if not good replace them all as the movement from taking the gas tank off may split or crack them or cause them to split afterwards. They are pressurised so a split is serious. I would replace them too, not expensive even for BMW fuel line, but it does mean air box off which uses 2 Allen bolts down to the top of the engine, accessible when you take out the air filter. Make the new ones slightly longer and you wont have to disconnect the fuel lines next time you need to get at the relay box or the radiator coolant cap.

Welcome Patrick! I believe there are some posts here that give pointers to help with your alternator damper task.  I too was able to replace those rubber bits without too much difficulty.  Do take care to note their orientation so you can guide the new ones into their respective slots and all will go together without a fuss. I found using some silicon grease helpful.

Welcome along Patrick. I've a bit of bad news for you ...at 100k your brick is NOT a high miler. Many Forum member with 2 and even 3 times that! I had a spanish friend over in the summer with his RS he bought new in '87 which now has 328k on the clock. Maintenance on a timely basis is the key. I presume you read the link to "You just bought a used k100, so what now?" It's smack bang in the middle of the portal page so get stuck in if you haven't.
