Hi, just doing the rear splines on my R100RS and no problem getting everything apart carefully with all the info available here and elsewhere on the internet. The only issue is trying to buy some Honda Moly 60 M-77 Assembly Paste....nobody I have rung in SE Queensland seems to know about the stuff, including Honda (both motorcycles and car service departments..... Sad....) and a few car auto shops as well.....can anybody point me in the right direction in this part of the world......thanks in advance..... Very Happy

Funny, I never thought of Queensland as being in the Third World... before.  It seems improbable that Honda would discontinue offering that product, as it's certainly popular with the BMW community.  If it is truly unavailable in your neighborhood, perhaps its time to shop oversea via the WWW. Question

Go to Blackwoods and get Rocol GA50 it is specifically made for splines amd engine assembly paste, it is 50% moly. It will cost around $40 for a 125 gm tube but it lasts for years. I bought some when I had to do the splines on my Z1300 Kawasaki in 1979 and I am on my second tube now.

I seen that for sale at a local nut/bolt/bearing supplier recently as well.

...thanks Rick and AL-58, I have located a Blackwoods nearby at Yatala so I'll slip over there in the morning for the Moly stuff and see how the rear end reassembly goes tomorrow... Shocked

...btw, my "to do" list was only a handful of things a few weeks ago but it's grown now to a page or two even though I've done heaps....could this be the start of the dreaded KPox....interesting.... Embarassed

Local Honda dealer parts 'guru' hahaha never heard of the Moly60...

Other local auto parts 'specialists' hahahohohehe have the usual 'deer in the headlights' look...  Laughing

Looks like my only option is to import Guard Dog from USA, meaning crazy exchange rate & disgusting shipping charges...  Mad

But I'm still happy to be living in Canada  cheers

Millers or Castrol - I use the Castrol. Might be cheaper than going to Uncle Scrooge Sam down south?

I use Guard Dog Moly 525 as it is classified a "grease".

A lot of BM riders use a 50-50 mix of Honda Moly 60 and Wurth 3000 grease, as the Honda Moly, due to its high moly content, is more of a paste and doesn't seem to stay in place as well as the 50-50 mix.

The Honda stuff is good, but it's not a grease. The Wurth stuff is good, but it has no moly. Mixing the two provides a god-like nectar for your splines.

My 2 cents.

Honda moly 60 is no longer available. Honda M77 is supposed to replace it and has similar adhesive qualities. It seems to be used a lot for brake assembly.

The Millers Delta 2ep sold by Motoworks has no moly content and their Castrol has only a few percent

Visited the local Blackwoods store at Yatala today and got some Molybond GA-50 Assembly Compound....paid $36.30 for a 100g tube and hopefully will pick it up on Monday as it has to come on back order from Brisbane.....I guess there are not too many K-bikes in the area so not kept on the shelf at Yatala. Well at least its coming soon and the red K100RS can start to go back together....now just hoping the "to do" list doesn't keep growing.... Very Happy

This is the link to the Blackwoods catalogue, the moly stuff is on page 17-12, part no 00806208 for the 100g tube

Hmm, lots of opinions here - one would think that for something as important as spline lube there would be a consensus?  😕

The Blackwoods catalog was fun reading - similar to Acklands-Grainger in US/CAN...

I think the consensus is that a high moly content lubricant is required.  But what product is readily available varies with different countries.

I often have to ignore any recommendation that comes from the US due to total non availability locally.

The Optimol is good stuff for splines. It is more a marine grease and sometimes refered to as cannery grease because it can stand water and heat from steam. Cannerys use steam to cook the tins of fruit or whatever else to 120°C.
