Hi guys, I have a 1992 K100LT since June 2010 after a long absence from two wheels.

It is proving very nice to use, if a little on the high and heavy side but once moving its fine. Came with 93k miles, I suspect some intermittent non use but is fine.

I do most of my own maintenance and quite happy to attempt any jobs. Very impressed with the site and it has already answered some questions for me.

Interested sometime in meeting up as I see we have a few members in Ireland.

I have got a few replies already which is great but as a new member I cannot reply back or send emails so please take this as thank you.

Great to have you along Olaf. How goes it in the Peoples Republic of Cork?

You've found a great resource here to help with your maintenance.

Avenger GT is down your way too. At this rate we'll have enough for an Irish Rideout cheers

So far there are three of us. I am regularly in Dublin and also in south east as in Wexford. Lots of nice roads in Wexford....Hook Head is a really nice destination. Still waiting for that darn starter relay and keeping fingers crossed that it really was the problem. I did order it in Ireland to try to support local business but am less than impressed to find that it takes two weeks when I was offered same day despatch from motorworks in UK for what was slightly less money. We had some fantastic weather for the last week and had to use car yesterday for what is usually a great bike run. I probably need about an hour to put the fairing pieces back together after its fitted.

Olaf - I'd be up for a run to the hook with you. Or maybe we could meet further west say Dungarvan and do the coast to Tramore, Dunmore East and across on the passage east/Ballyhack ferry then on down to the hook and back via wexford town, then we would literally be going "By Hook or By Crook" Very Happy . In this weather it would be amazing!

PM me and we see if we can get rough plan together then we can throw it up in the forum under rideouts and see if any of the other Irish K bike owners can join in. New Member from Ireland 112350

Ah the famous line in history, by Hook or by Crook.....well known to middle ages mariners as the two guardians of Waterford Harbour, if my memory is good, attributed to Oliver Cromwell. On the road to Hook is what I call the spookiest house in Ireland, the great imposing Loftus Hall. Would be nice to meet up though and hopefully I can get bike sorted at the weekend.

Nice wishes from further afield too.........I have a friend from US who has K1200 coming over Monday, sans bike.

Last summer in August there was a run called Fifteen to one, basically from fifteen different centres to Kilkenny Castle. It was not well publicised and attendance was small but it was a fantastic idea, route and location. Makes a nice centre for meeting if one is travelling from afar. There is a very nice woman there called Ann Teehan who I spoke with last year and she is very helpful. I did suggest they run it again this year. Even organised little plywood plates for sidestands as it was a grass bike park.

Being K bikes generally we have lots of luggage and space so even overnights are a doddle as they say.

A meeting in Hook or elsewhere sounds a great idea - its years since I was on the passage east ferry. I'm well retired and therefore pretty free most of the time. Please keep me posted.

My recollection is that there is a place for coffee and sandwiches at Hook Head, in the lighthouse.

Not so far from there is Carne, a nice beach, recommend the Lobster Pot. Further west is Kilmore Quay, also great for food.

Welcome to the forum Olaf - it looks like you have an Ireland rideout already in the planning stages. I toured southern Ireland with my then wife back in the late 1980's and loved everything about it. I would love to visit again sometime Wink

Welcome to the forum, Olaf.
I tried to give up the K habit last year but its got me again. Just bought another one this evening. Hope to have it on the road again by the end of April.
I live just north of the border and often take trips into the south.
Starting to look like we would have enough to make an Irish meet worthwhile.
I have toured the south with friends the last two years and love it. Very bike friendly.
Hope to meet you sometime this year.

Looks like I started something here. A few places visited, not on the bike. First off went to Cornwall [by car] for the eclipse in 99, stayed at Marazion and had a wonderful camping holiday. Kids were with me and loved it.

Also spent quite a bit of time up north as my grandad was from Co. Down. Have fond memories of Bangor, Ballyhornan, Belfast and more.

Would be good to organise a K bike get together or an occasional run. I must keep count and suspect we are now five or six in number.

There is a big bike [as in Big bikes and a big rally, maybe 7,000] rally in Killarney on the June bank holiday weekend. Worth heading over to as there are some very nice roads and rideouts from there. Lots of good hotels but suspect most of them booked up by now. Could be a good place to start though. irelandbikefest dot com

Was at that bikefest last June in Killarney. Big crowds at it with a friendly atmosphere.
Should get somewhere to stay nearby. Its still early in the tourist season and plenty of B&B's in the area.
Wouldn't mind going again if I can get back on the road in time.

You are quite right, Olaf.
I hadn't realised that things have come together so well here in such a short period of time.
I had even forgotten that I had posted on this thread.
Its a promising start and I'm looking forward to plenty of get-togethers and ride outs next year with such a friendly bunch of like-minded eccentrics. (Had to get that in!)

I was having a nostalgic moment thinking of how we got to meet up and decided there was enough history in this thread to bump it up.

Nice to see how the forum has developed and even since I came into it in March 2012 there has been lots happened.

Especially the line about 'Probably will never meet our friends down under [did I say that?] but the atmosphere and everything is greatly appreciated'.
