I realize this is a K100 forum, but it does seem to have some excellent project bike resources.  Hopefully my smaller brick will get a bit of respect on here.  I expect to run into most of the same problems everyone else has and I'll do my best to dive through the archives to see what the solutions are.  Electrical will be a fun one for me (as it has been for many others).

Here's what I decided to break



It is / was a 1992 K75 with just a hair under 20K on it.  Ran like a top.  I have no excuses on the engine side if it doesn't start up when I put it back together.

Stripped the bike down to get to the frame, wanted to do a few frame cuts and perhaps weld a few items on.  Did a blank background shot to use as a sketchpad.




Follow ups to come.  The frame is off and getting modified and the engine paint has been touched up.  Outside of this forum the project can be found on instagram: @diesisphoto #projectk75

Sketchup of the general idea.  A guide, if nothing else.  The white is what will be removed.  Handlebars will be swapped to a much lower pair of Renthals - I don't find the full lean as comfortable so this one will still have a partially upright seating.


Used POR 15 to clean up the engine a little bit.  Sorry about the rotation.  


I will be replacing the gauges with a motogadget mini and some other accessories (figuring out the wiring will probably take care of my winter).  New LSL headlight and mount.  Planning on re-running upgraded brake lines from Speigler.   Has anyone done the rotor modification that they offer?

Rotor modification? For what? I failed miserably trying to find it on their website.

Its a K forum as much as K100. So its K75 K100 K1100 and some K1200 bricks.

No need to feel you are in the wrong place, quite a few forum members have K75 and K100 bikes tucked away.

Some of your modifications have been done by others so someone will be able to point out the pit falls and answer questions.

Apparently converts to a semi-floating assembly.  Not sure how much value (other than aesthetic) this offers.  I also expect it is 2X the cost for the front, seeing as there are two discs.

Rotor = brake disc, brake rotor, disc brake...

'Pends on what part of the world you come from. I've noticed, having been here in the US on and off for yonks, that Merkuns tend to use the word rotor when talking 'bout brake discs more than other English speaking countries. It does spin, afterall.

Looking down Spieglers list I can see at least 6 bikes that already have floating discs from the factory.
