Hi  Brickies,
I was just cruising EBay and came across a K100RS that had had a right hand side stand mod. What a great idea! I've had a search on this forum but see no reference to it. I'd be very surprised tho if no one here had seen one.
Has anyone any idea of how to go about this? Has any forum member had this done?

Jez.

Hey Nino,

I haven't seen the modification.I thought the one he was selling had it, but it turns out he mentions one that his mechanic modified one on a K100 turbo HERE. But that's why I ask, has anyone seen one?

Sorry mate, not much help.

Jez.

In the '80s & '90s whilst I was attending Beemer rallies in the US & Canada it was a standing joke that an Aussie or a Pom would turn up on a road-worn & battered, world-travelled GS with a right hand side stand. It was a sight to be seen, and certainly a conversation starter around the tents or bonfire....not that the typical beer-in-hand OZ at a North American motorbike rally has any trub beginning a convo with eager Yanks or Canucks.

I reckon anything thats not an out-and-out superbike should have side stands on both sides. Such a handy thing.

When Aust Post was still buying CT110's from Honda and having them modified at the factory, on of the mods was dual side stands and during my time as a posty, it was a revelation.

Was thinking about doing it to my K but time and money do indeed have limits and I dont have a welder.

Someone has since pointed out to me that most Vincents have dual side stands.

I have been considering two side stands on chookie and good strong ones that will take the weight as I mount it like a horse, one foot on the peg and the other over, helps us old buggers get a leg over. What a Face

The guy that Charlie mentioned at the Karuah Rally with a side stand on both sides of his R80 is a long term friend of mine named Mike. He has the right side stand, which is electrically operated and interlocked so he can't ride off with it down, due to his having badly damaged his pelvis in a major accident on a K100 many years ago. Having the bike able to lean to the right enables him to get on and off that he has difficulty doing with it leaning the other way.

Mike is a very talented electrician and his brother is a very talented mechanical fitter (who also has a couple of BMWs including a pristine R90S). Between them they are a formidable team.

Cheers

There is a chap called Ryan (D'Amico?) who is on a K facebook page who did this.

I think he used a sidestand from a Honda superbike and welded it to the other side. If any remembers the bike, it had 4 stub exhausts, no silencers, no fairing, no paint on the tank. Looke quite nice actually.
