After a few questions by others, yes I have my new N + 1

N used to be 2. Now the balance has been reset, putting me into a never ending spiral of + 1s

Long story short, it is the bike Mr Klompy and myself picked up for Rawdon which it turned out he either did not want, did not want as bad as me or he was not allowed his new +1.

After some negotiatons and eventually me paying a totally different person for another bike Rawdon had purchased that he may or may not have wanted another member of his family to kn ow that he purchased, the bike is mine.
Hope the missus doesn't read the forum Rawdon.

Seat is a bit high for me so going the low seat option. Got some spare side covers to cut up and try to make fit where the tank cover misses.

Probably put the C bars on also. Surprised how far forward the RS bars are.

Ladies and gentlemen.....

The Tick.

N + 1 = 3 + 1 = 4 - 1 = 3 TheTick-76992

N + 1 = 3 + 1 = 4 - 1 = 3 20141111

N + 1 = 3 + 1 = 4 - 1 = 3 20141112

Im having issues and im thinking k100 has an addiction factor. I bought a rs with rt fairings for café racer and now I find myself wanting a LT or RT in stock form for munching miles also.

Rossko, Rossko we all knew that would happen as soon as you offered to pick it up. So I guess you don't need a new clutch plate now?, and what's happened to the front wheel of that old beast in the background. It's like getting a new puppy and the old dog gets ignored.

Well, now that you mention it a new clutch would be great. How much?

Old dog not forgotten. The front wheel has the Shinkos on it and just a bit lazy to put em back after Nymboida.

Gonna bung the clutch in the /2 and then up for sale she goes.

Apparently when N=3 something bad happens.

Much to the dismay of one of the household, N+1 now = 4.

This, however I have assured her is only a temporary measure as I have one n for sale.

Funny how my logic does not translate well.

Got me a Katana. Only a 750, not the overpriced 1100 but it is my new n so I am happy.
Anyone traveling from Lismore to Sydney over the next few weeks with a spare slot for a bike?

Hoping to get my points back from all the good info on the March trip next year. No pressure Eccentrics.

"Funny how my logic does not translate well."

I can relate so well to this statement Rossko! Tell us more about the Katana - is it rideable?

My 'naked red' is now in residence at Sydney airport so could be heading down that way again after this - or more likely the next, work swing in Qld.

Rawdon,
I believe it is rideable however I am having it transported down to Sydney as there is a large box of spares.
Here is the blurb from the owner.

Spares are included to cure 'pop-up's' over-enthusiasm and also spare alternator winding replacement as regards the present_+60% battery charging - both common problems on this 1984/5 model. If you get one you will eventually experience exactly the same, given time! Some of the plastics are cracking but not serious and would be welded/remediated. The engine is a real beauty and low mileage, chain and sprockets 80%, very quiet and punchy motor. At over 3K with it's stage 2 cams fitted as standard - it flies! Manual and special factory book included.I am indeed sorry but this project has to go due to my recent knee operation(non-M/C related)and lack of garage space. The machine was used regularly and last year (at long last) put on my club's Classic Rego. New battery, genuine new speedo/throttle cables, both brakes and forks overhauled by a specialist. I would like to see this project through- but my health and lack of garage-space dictate otherwise

Pretty excited to have another K(atana) in the garage.

Rosskko - there's a dead-easy fix for that overcharging problem - two, actually.

1. The cheap one. Always ride with the headlight on and only ever ride it with a known-good battery.
2. The more involved one. I used to use secondhand late 1980's-onwards Honda CB-series regulator/rectifiers (the CDI equipped bikes) but one of these will do.

Remove the Kat's regulator and rectifier units.
Connect the Kat's green/white, blue/white and yellow alternator wires to the three yellow wires on the Honda unit. Depending on the year, the Kat's alternator wires could be just blue, red and yellow.
Connect the Suzuki orange to the Honda black.
Connect the Suzuki black/white to the Honda green.
Connect the Suzuki red to the Honda red.

The problem is caused by piss-poor regulator design. In summary:

During the day the green/white winding is generating power which is doing nothing. It has to go somewhere, so it's dumped as excess heat.
The blue/white winding is rectified but not regulated. It relies on a good battery to provide the regulation, so if the battery is the slightest bit out of condition the volts go way up. More excess heat.
Only the yellow winding is properly regulated.

I seem to have spent most of the late Eighties and early Nineties converting Suzukis to Honda reg/rec units because of the Suzuki propensity to first blowing the reg and then taking the alternator with it as collateral damage. So much so that the local bike breakers started putting up his Honda reg/rec prices... Shocked

So have we now identified a new virulent strain of the highly contageous K-Pox? You may need to go into isolation rosskko N + 1 = 3 + 1 = 4 - 1 = 3 8157

If anyone feels a disturbance in the force around 5.40 Sydney time, that is just me signing over the papers for the /2.

I would like to feel a bit sad, but actually don't. I have grown to like the 1100 more and more and for me it is a far nicer bike to ride.

So now we wait till next Tuesday for the new strain of K pox to arrive.
Yes K.H. It is a virulent strain.

I saw a reference above to a test ride of a Katana. Sounds similar to an experience of mine in 1985. I was a student at Pearce RAAF Base in Western Australia. I had a 1981 Honda CB750 at the time, my first 'big' bike. Another student had a Katana 1100. He let me take it for a ride up the Chittering Valley. As you know, the Katana had a weird double instrument setup where the speedo and the tacho kind of rotated around each other on the same face. I was giving the Kat about what felt like the same amount of 'stick' I would give the Honda. On a straightaway the back end felt a little twitchy and it took a while for my brain to interpret that weird speedo. I looked down and was doing 220 km/hr - a whole lot more than I thought I was doing. That thing was a whole different ball game to my Honda and a hell of a buzz to ride at the time. That is still the fastest I have been on two wheels!

Similar experience, but not quite at the same level. Being used to my CB175, I rode my cousin's Kawasaki 250 2 stroke triple. Up through the 6 gears, not trying hard, but looked down at the speedo to see 80mph (128km/h)!

I've been to 160km/h on my K, risky enough for my licence in Oz, but to 230km/h in my son in law's BMW 530i on a German autobahn.

I have a hill not far from me with an overtaking lane. Shortly after I got the LT I was 'overtaking' and opened it. Near top I closed it to see the needle drop towards 90...mph. Sure didn't feel it. Didn't even change gear.
