I own an Aspen Silver (w/ factory pin stripes) 1996 K1100 LT SE which now has gone 74,xxx miles. I bought my LT almost 2 years ago from a guy in Connecticut and I am the third owner.  This is my second BMW motorcycle. My 1975 BMW R90/6 is still going strong for a 40 year old bike with over 200,000 miles "on the clock" and I've owned it since 1983 - half of my life! Oh yeah, I reside in the Boston area of Massachusetts.
The LT is now my long-tour bike although the R will still go where ever I want it to . I have ridden the K around town and locally but it shines out on the open road eating up miles of blacktop and I think it looks great doing it. Last year I rode the LT to the Finger Lakes Rally and it was fun to ride except for the BMW "comfort" seat. I recently replaced it with a Corbin and it has made all the difference in comfort. (I know they don't work for some people).
In the future, I plan on doing most of the repair and maintenance, hopefully learning from this forum (and others) along the way.
Talk to you later...

Welcome Donaldo.  You're in good company here.  Lots of help with technical questions, and lots of riders with similar backgrounds. I too come with a long history of airhead ownership.  I'm also an admirer of the K100RS' lines.  They're  very pretty bikes.

Thanks Brickrider,
I too love the look of the K100/1100 RS and want to get an RS at some point. These bikes are very affordable to purchase vs the airheads which are skyrocketing in price, (mainly because of the new-found interest by "cafe-hackers" IMO).
I just need to familiarize myself with the K set up. I know that the K is way more complicated than the R but about on par with my 1993 Volvo 940 (another brick). So, in the grand scheme of things, not that complicated.
Don

Welcome Donaldo!  You sound like you're getting the kpox.  I got my first K last spring(a K75RT), and less than 6 months later it was joined by a '92 K100RS.  Right now I'm trying hard not to be seriously looking for a K75S.

These bikes are so inexpensive it's almost impossible to not fill your garage with them.  Another nice thing about them is that they have so many parts in common so your spares inventory can be quite minimal.
