As it's a mere 1350 kms (850 miles) from where I am living, and I haven't attended one of these extraordinary shindigs in, well, since '98 when it was in Missoula, Montana, I thought I'd ride the K on over the mountains and have a good squiz. I leave Wednesday due to work load and will slab it out and two-lane it back.

I'll be the balding middle-age redhead with a goatee, a gold earring and a funny accent on a dark blue K1200GT with the Two Bros pipe near a green tent with a beer in each hand wrapped in a Victoria Bitter stubby holder. Bet I'll blend right in.

Blend right in?  I'll leave that for others to judge. But, for all the jokes made about the members of the BMWMOA being senior citizens without even the slightest pretense of rowdiness left in their arthritic joints, I find that those rallies are fertile ground for those seeking the odd, the eccentric and the just plane weird -- not that you would inhabit any of those categories!    Those rallies are a treat.  Count on too much sun, your tent being way too far from the morning coffee and more seminars that you can possibly take advantage of and you'll be mentally prepared for the adventure.
I'll be there, but I've yet to decide what to ride. It could be my somewhat battered K100RS, my well-used R100RS or, if I completely go off the deep end, my much-love Laverda. 
They will open the gates to Laverda riders, won't they?
No super slab for me!  I'll enjoy the ride to and from as much as the rally itself.  I've never before ridden the famed Beartooth Pass, and Yellowstone? Well, Yellowstone Park is always special.

If you see a short greying, balding Maltese with serious limp; probably hanging around any R90S that's stationery for long enough, thats Frank the wog visiting from the sunny climes of Melbourne.  Just kick him in the nuts and say that Al told you to.

He has a K1100RS as well as the half painted boxer so I still talk to him.

Fosters was originally invented by the French in a desperate attempt to make the Germans look like fools but some dumb Victorians were in Germany at the time and took the joke seriously and purchased the recipe, the French are still laughing . Some people just cant be helped.

Interesting that Fosters is well known out of Australia, and never drunk in Australia.

In a similar way, Belgian Stella Artois is well known outside Belgium and never drunk in Belgium. Mind you, Belgium has at least 364 other brands, and I've seen alcohol content as high as 13%!

Today's the day I head off east to Big Sky Country. The weather's cooler this side of the Cascades. It'll be hotter over there. The cool vest is packed. The Mightiest K is loaded. I expect to make 'Spoklahoma' by nightfall, five hours away. Just a half day's work for the man and I'm gone!

I got away at four o'clock and rolled into Spokane  a red pubic hair past eight. I managed 45 mpg, averaged 75 mph and smiled at the awesome western scenery coming at me as the sun sank over my shoulders. 

Time for grub and grog.

Sigh...

This was one I was hoping to attend. Had planned a very scenic route to Billings from Central Idaho on the RS.
Alas, fire season has interrupted life once again.

I returned home from the BMWMOA rally today.  It was a fine rally, with a bit under 5K riders in attendance. The weather was mostly agreeable, with a spike in heat the very afternoon I arrived on site. The older I get, the less I tolerate heat.  I almost gave up trying to erect my tent, as I was too loopy to sort it out for the longest time.
As is my custom, I did not win any of the many door prizes.  In fact, I managed to lose a very nice little LED light
I set off for the rally on the K100RS but within a short time the alternator light began to wink at me, growing brighter all the while.  I decided to return home rather than risk being stranded by a lonely road side. Fortunately, the old Airhead was up to the task of taking me to the rally and bringing me home without any complaints.  106 K miles now on the clock and she still doesn't even  burn or leak oil between changes!  Gotta love those old, simple machines.
On balance, I had a very enjoyable week.
